Okay so this is not the most expensive or rugged lighting setup. But it is a very good cost effective way to light up a small home based studio without breaking the bank. I found that there was plenty of light for photo shots without pushing the ISO to the limit or setting the aperture wide open. Could set the camera white balance to Auto and get colors that needed little in processing to come in right. Setting the white balance with a card gave a slight different hue than the Auto but both were in the realm of natural color. The 6500K bulbs are a bit cool in the Kelvin arena but shooting in RAW with Auto or white carding will produce a good color that can be warmed in processing. I tried a quick setup with a keylight, fill and hairlight and even though I had some distance from my subject to softbox gave a well lit setting even in the dark of my living room it wasn't perfect but my first outing with the softboxes showed potential. (See Picture) Now back to the build like I said it isn't the most rugged and in a commercial high volume studio one would probably want to opt for a much more robust setup. But for a small home studio or just for practicing lighting techniques you can't beat the cost here. I used fish tank gravel in my counterweight boom and had excellent balance. I set up lights to shoot video and some still photography and these will let me get professional results at minimum costs.Read full review

It's a reasonable setup for the price. the CFL's don't seem to be color corrected they land in the bluer white area of the color spectrum but nothing that can't be corrected in post production. My biggest issue is the cheapness of the main boom stand....it is a flimsy pile of garbage that i wouldn't recommend taking out for in the field use. Not even fully extended the weight of the light assembly causes the boom and stand to physically bend.... not exactly inspiring confidence. For light duty at home work you should be fine.

The set came without any instructions. I looked at YouTube videos to figure out how to set it all up. In the videos, there is an interior white square of defusing fabric that goes in front of the bulbs inside each hood, then the outside hood cover goes on. My three lights did not come with the interior square of fabric. Also, you have to have weights for a pouch on the boom light, because it is so top heavy. Be prepared with at least 5 pounds of small weights. For the low price of the set, lighting is adequate.

These are amazing!! No, they did not come with instructions, but this kit is perfect in every other way! The lights are not too blue or too orange, but are perfectly white. The boxes, lights, and stands are made of premium materials and are very trustworthy, except that I am a little skeptical from the crane stand for the overhead light, which bends slightly. That is all! I did break some lights in the process while building them, but that had nothing to do with the lights themselves, but it was my fault out of not being careful. Buy these if you want or need them! I can’t recommend them enough! 6 stars!

I host a weekly YouTube show, and was in need of professional studio lighting without the professional cost. The light weight and low heat from these is perfect for our use. The ease of assembly and portability makes them incredibly quick to set up and tear down each week. I couldn't be more satisfied with this product and would highly recommend them.
