A unique gaming experience! When you go online to play this game you will truly be in a different world complete with politics and economy. The game saves all data on the server so even if you get disconnected you spawn exactly where you left off and with exactly everything you were still holding down to how much Health Points and Magic Points you have left. The game is very hard at first as you almost cannot defeat any monsters on your own. Staying true to the Final Fantasy Genre... you need to create Parties with other Human-players and team up against monsters to level-up or do quests. Unlike the previous FF series there is no concrete story-line but rather different Quests with stories that tie into them. Some are long some are quick. Awesome battle engine and complex combat strategies make this game a must-have. There's so many things to do and learn that no one could possibly finish this game in one lifetime! If you're not patient don't play this game... it's hard to make money... and level up... even power-leveling with a buddy gets tough. Definately not your regular online game! There's no hacking and PK in this game so that's also a plus! Come online and meet me! World: Valefor Name: KaisenRead full review
A great game. While I wasn't a big fan of MMORGs (Primarily due to computer difficulties in playing them), this has changed my mind a bit about them. It reminded me a bit of WoW with the factions, and the various quests ensure quite a few months of game play. The drawback I see is that, while the graphics are great, the game seems to dependent on expansions for any continual play, which makes questing a bit of a pain some of the time. Unfortunately, at least in my view anyway, monsters are a bit over powered. You practicly have to form parties, which is a bit tedius at times. Overall, this is a great game, although I think anyone new to online rpgs should try a diffent one due to difficulty. Other than a few flaws, its well worth the money to buy.
Overall a nice package deal but it doesnt come with the network adaptor which is required to hook up the hard drive! Ended up spending almost as much for the adaptor as I did the package deal. The hard drive installs easily and the software is easy to follow but be caustious that if it has been used already, you will need to setup a new ID with Square to actually play the game at $100! Another problem is that the PS2 doesnt recognize the hard drive as a device to save game data to for most games. I may need to reconfigure it to make it work right just havnt had the chance. Overall, a nice addition to the PS2 but if I had to do it over again, I would only buy the network adaptor and skid the game because you can only play the game online and you need a paid membership to do that.
Wow, I don't know where to begin. I bought this bundle which included a 40Gb hard drive, two game discs, utility disc and three manuals. The manual for the game is around two hundred pages long. If you want one, make sure if its opened or used that the registration codes haven't already been used or its basically worthless. First of all, it requires a network adapter (sold separately) which is the stupidest thing because without it once again its worthless. So, after getting one off eBay I installed the HDD (40Gb hard drive AND network adapter) into my PS2, no problem very easy to do. I am pretty smart with computers but let me tell you, from this point on you almost have to be an IT tech to get this game up and running......The game is pre-installed on the HDD but you can't open it until you download the PlayOnline viewer program, which is on disc 2 that comes with the bundle (along with another game). Needless to say, it's on a disc that instead of being the normal shiny, reflective, mirror like surface you're used to seeing on a CD or DVD, it is colored blue and unbeknownst (is that a word) to me the PS2 has a hard time reading blue discs. You put it in and the unit makes horrible noises and you get a cannot read disc error....GREAT!! So know this is again almost worthless because to summarize without the viewer you can't play the game. After searching google, luckily, I came up with an easy fix. Putting two pieces of tape (I used scotch) (wanted to use whiskey, LOL) opposite of each other close to the inner hole of the disc(label side NOT data side). Okay things are looking up, the disc now is readable, software is installed. Now comes the agonizing task of registering the game, creating an ID and an account (keep in mind this is after you have figured out how connect the PS2 to your wireless network) which you used to be able to do from the PS2 (create account) but now due to security breaches, you now have to go to your PC and do it. Which my friends the website is the most confusing website you will ever encounter IMHO. So, now if you can jump through all these hoops you might think you can now play the game........wrong. Twelve hours later after the update installs, which somewhere in my journey prior to this it did a different update which was long (about 10 mins) when your anxious to play a new game. This bundle is NOT for the average consumer. I got it cheap ($4.00) and I see it going for over $100, I would be even more disappointed if it weren't for the fact of getting it cheap.Read full review
For those who are avid game players, like myself, the Final Fantasy series is top rank for RPG's. Final Fantasy XI (or FFXI) is a wonderful Massive Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game (or MMORPG). The Purchase I made was for the base game with the first expansion included, and the 40gb hard drive for the playstation 2. The primary reason I purchased it is that I do enjoy the Final Fantasy series, and at the price that I paid for an opened, but unused, game, it was an excellent deal. The only real drawback, as I said in the title, is that you are unable to play the game off-line.
