I still do most of my in studio shooting with a view camera, though with a digital back attached now, and therefore need these great lenses. I use a 90 mm so often for one client that I've worn a couple shutters out over the years. 2 previous lenses were slower (f/8) than this f/4.5 Nikon version, and although I don't shoot wide open often, I do appreciate the additional brightness of the image for focusing. Buying a well cared for used lens via ebay was a MUCH more economical option than buying a new lens retail elsewhere for several times more. I can't attest to how well this Nikon might compare in sharpness to a Fuji, Schneider, etc., the difference is probably not noticeable, I've used numerous makes and they have all performed fairly well with any shortcomings probably more my own fault. But Nikon makes excellent lenses and it's hard to go wrong as long as it's been stored properly and not dropped/scratched. The seller's price was fair and the shipping was very quick, even near the holidays. No complaints!Read full review

I upgraded from a 90mm f5.6 Super Angulon and the Nikkor is just so much better. I mounted the 90mm f4.5 Nikkor SW on a 10 x 8 camera to compare the coverage with the 90mm f5.6 SA. The data sheets I have said they were the same image circle at 235mm but the 90mm SW Nikkor is about 25mm greater coverage than the SA at all apertures and almost covers 10 x 8 at the f22 hyperfocal distance (which I would always use). The lens is perfect for 7 x 5 or 10 x 4 with plenty of room for movements. The f4.5 is very noticably brighter on the ground glass, I just wish I'd upgraded earlier.
Fantastic 4.5 aperture lets in a lot of light and makes it much easier to compose during those best landscape photo moments - sunrise and sunset, not to mention on darker days. Another benefit of this lens is it is easier to find the exact focus point with a 4.5 versus a 5.6 or 8 (the shallower depth of field wide open helps you pinpoint it). This lens is supersharp and gives a great angle of view for those who like wide angle shots. Comparable to about a 28mm lens in 35mm format. It is a big and heavy lens, but its my favorite. It's all about seeing, composing and focusing to get that right shot. If you shoot large format you already have plenty of equipment. This is the most important piece.
Excellent lens, exceeds my expectations.
