Good for LIGHT DUTY work, and the price is right. You are not getting Starrett quality, nor are you paying that price either ($60.00 +). The plastic container is nice and so is the knurling on the punches. The finish on the chrome? (steel) is poor, but shouldn't affect use. The set is smaller than I expected. For light duty work these are just fine.

This set of punches, in general, works just fine! With some some information you NEED TO KNOW!! I tried this on a pistol that I needed to disassemble. There are several pins, and almost all of them came out just fine with a few reasonable taps of a mallet. One was a bit tougher, but I was able to get it out with a little more elbow grease. However, ONE pin was EXTREMELY tough to get out. I beat the hell out of it with no luck. At first I thought a brass punch would be hard enough and that it just needed a bit of added force, but it ended up bending the punch really badly. I was able to hammer it back into working order though. Okay, I then tried the same size steel punch. While it was able to take more stress, it also bent significantly. I was also able to hammer it back to shape again. You can see them in my picture below. You can also see that the steel punch "mushroomed" out from the force. It is VERY SOFT STEEL. Soft enough to bend over with your hand, whereas something made of a hard carbon steel will have some "give", but are much tougher, and won't mushroom or bend easily. The conclusion? I had to get something better at home depot for cheap, in order to drive that one really tough pin out. I believe that because these punches are far too soft, they absorbed the energy and started bending, rather than being able to drive out the pin. The better punch I ended up buying had ZERO trouble with the pin. Within 5 seconds, I was able to drive out the pin with the much harder, higher-quality punch I had purchased. The moral of the story: This set is okay for very light duty jobs. But it WILL NOT work for tougher ones that require a high amount of force to drive the pin out. These things just don't have that in them. Overall, they're fine!Read full review

Wprks good, nice sizes. Brass punches work well for assembly/ disassembly of firearms.

Don't assume anything. Whether your gun is 80 yrs old or brand new, EVERY gun/pin is different. Anticipate anything between "Loc-Tite" & "Exlax" and proceed accordingly. A small piece of milk carton between a steel punch & pin protects well. Using a small amt of lube on pins for reassembly helps too - both you AND the next guy. A SMALL Dead Blow hammer is also good.

I saw some negative feedback after i placed the order that had me concerned. I ordered then for a friend who needed take down punches for an Remington 870/1100. These are just right for that. And that's fine. If you want punches to rebuild a tranny, this is not your set. And, again, that's fine. (Oh, BTW, delivery was just fine.)
