I don’t actually lock it. I use it on a main breaker to change out sub panels. Other guys are doing the same thing in places where the breakers are not labeled properly. So if someone is flipping through trying to find the one they are looking for, they can see this red lock on the one I’m working on and avoid it.

The 491B (and 493B) work well for breakers whose handles pivot (i.e. most of them), and the mostly-metal construction seems unlikely to break or wear out prematurely. However, these lockouts do not work well for breakers (such as Wadsworth) which slide between the OFF and ON positions. ABUS lockouts work much better on sliding breakers, but (being plastic) are not as rugged. If I could have only one of these two manufacturers' lockouts, I'd choose ABUS due to the broader applicability.

What a cost effective way to insure safety. I use it when running my emergency generator.

Love these safety devices. Works on breakers and light switches. Good quality, works well.

Worked great, just wish the breaker panel door would close with it on, but no problem...
