I love the easy to understand format for a layman like myself. Natural hooves have become very fascinating to me after meeting someone who uses HPT as a profession with much success here in the islands of Hawai'i. And I have seen instant results with using these methods on my own horses. The trimmer recommended this as a first read and that is why I purchased it. What I disliked most about this book was the poor pixel quality of the black & white photos used throughout. It was difficult to see the details of the hooves but, sufficient enough to grasp the examples described. Luckily, I had assisted the HPT person here one day and was given a 6 hour introduction with hands on and the allowance to take color photos myself so I think that made it easier for me to comprehend the photos as well. All in all, I would highly recommend this book because this method of HPT works :0 )Read full review
This has been wonderful. Very easy to read, actually entertaining. Easy to understand and follow. You can read this and go to your horse and immediately help and make a difference. Buying this book has saved us with the number of horses we own thounsands in dollars in farrier expenses. Our own farrier keeps his personal horses trimmed by this method. I do physical therapy work on horses and this has been very valuable to me in assessing the true problem in skeletal problems. Sometimes just making a simple adjustment in the hoof takes care of body soreness or unexplained undiagnosed lameness by the vets. Anyone who owns a horse should own and read this book. Race horse people could benefit during the off track times with these methods. Lazy Spur Ranch Thanks Pete Ramey for sharing his expertise.Read full review
This book is the most informative book I have found about natural hoof care. This book goes in depth and gives step by step instruction about hoof trimming and care. I bought this book to start giving my horses a good foundation. I have one with the best hooves. She has never had shoes her entire life and she is 16 years old. That's why I believed this was the best way to go. My 12 year old mare has the worst feet and has had shoes since she was a 3 year old. As soon as I read the description of this book, I knew this was where my horses and I needed to head for real sound feet. We just got a 2 year old and have already decided she will never wear shoes. She will be barefoot and happy the rest of her life. Good luck to all of you who have decided to go barefoot and natural!
I like the way this book is written, anybody can read and understand what Pete is trying to teach. It has technical terms but explained in a fun everyday language. Also Pete writes in an encouraging way, explaining the learning curve and not to beat yourself up. I will recommend this book to any horse owner, we all need to start thinking and acting naturally with horses. As far as being completely ready to trim afterwards I would recommend either viewing Pete's "Under the horse" dvd or spending time with a barefoot trimmer.
Bought this book recently and it's already a favorite - it's life changing. Logical, comprehensive - prepare to view it with an open mind - well worth the investment of your time and money! I'm one of those people who have to know the "why", and few books address that issue. It finally makes sense to me! I view this book as one of the best investments I've made in a long time. BZ
