Although he's been traveling the world for decades in search of riches, love, and adventure, Lupin the 3rd pays his first visit to North American console gamers in this Bandai release for the PlayStation 2. Based on the popular anime (which is itself based on early-20th century stories by French author Maurice Leblanc), this game puts players in control of Lupin, grandson of the world's most celebrated gentleman thief, who is joined by his constant companions Jigen the sharpshooter, Goemon the rogue samurai, and his dangerously alluring love-interest Fujiko. Lupin's nemesis Zenigata is also featured, so it's a safe bet the police inspector will <i>almost</i> nab the playboy thief at least once or twice before this adventure is finished.<br><br>While the outlaw hero may happen across a few full-fledged action sequences, Lupin the 3rd involves elements of exploration, problem solving, and stealth -- including Metal Gear Solid-style punctuation marks that appear over the heads of enemies to indicate their state of awareness. Completing objectives in the most efficient way possible is a goal, and this may mean more sneaking than shooting or slicing. Sure, Lupin may need to temporarily incapacitate a police officer, but only to "borrow" his uniform in an effort to avoid further direct conflict. On the other hand (and also as in the comics and television stories), the ability to think on one's feet when a situation turns sour may also prove invaluable as even the best-laid plans.

An okay game that's going to be fun for fans but frustrating for others.
Lupin III and the Treasure of the Sorcerer King is the only recent Lupin III title to be localized in the US. Keeping with series tradition, Sorcerer King sees Lupin and his gang attempting to steal various macguffins while evading capture from ICPO detective Inspector Zenigata. Things become more interesting later in the game however, as the story quickly picks up after the first chapter with players having the choice of controlling any of the three anti-heroes. Despite staying very true to the series and having a fantastic English dub (Pioneer / Geneon), Sorcerer King isn't without its flaws. The stealth gameplay (as Lupin) feels clumsy and badly thought out, whilst the gun-ho gameplay (as Daisuke Jigen) is perhaps one of the most slapped together shooting mechanics I have ever seen in a video game. Despite this, if you're a big fan of the series you will get some enjoyment out of it. The plot and characters are very true to the cartoon while sound effects and background music is mostly ripped right out from the series. Sorcerer King is a must if you're a fan of the series, but if you've never watched much Lupin before I'd steer clear.

One of thte best video games every
I love lupin the third so when the video game came out in the states I just had to have it. When ever I did seaches for the video game it always should me to different cover art. So naturaly I thought there were to video games. I finaly leared that was not the case. I own this game and even though its a hard game I love the animation and the fast pass of the game. I love the fact that you can play a lupin,goeman,and jiegan. I bought this game for my friend brand because he is a lupin fan and he could never find the game.thanks again for the game hope to do business with you again
