Pros: Nice image sharpness when shooting at "fine" setting and 12MP. Nice creative control with a wide variety of customizable settings. Settings are clearly outlined in the user manual which I found easy to understand. You can go the Kodak website and download pdfs of the standard manual and the advanced settings manual. This camera has amazing zoom like I've never seen on a non-DSLR camera. The price was great and I got lots of extras with it by purchasing on ebay. Overall I'd rate it as a great value for the price. Cons: The neck strap that it came with was kind of a joke. I took a strap from an older camera that I don't use anymore and it works fine. The lens cap does come off easily, however if you keep it attached/connected to the strap it's not a problem. The camera comes with the lens attachment. The batteries it came with don't last very long. None of the cons would have prevented me from buying this camera again as they are all very minor details. Other comments: In reading some other reviews before purchasing I found many people claimed the quality of photo shots were sub-par. I don't think anyone who made such claims really adjusted any settings or got to know the different functions. The other thing some complained about was the AA batteries. Many people prefer a different battery, but I'm from a different school of thought on this. I like that they are AA because you can buy good quality rechargeables in many different brands. Also, if you are on the road and forgot your battery, or the ones you have run out of juice, you can walk into any gas station and get replacements in a pinch. To me that is better than having a fancy custom battery and not being able to use the camera if you find yourself in that situation. And finally, the complaint that many have about this camera is simply that it is a Kodak. Kodak has developed a reputation over the years for being at the low end of the camera market. They do cost less than most other brands but the technology has come to a far enough point where they hold their own. This is third digital camera I've owned by Kodak and my experience with all of them has been great. I have a couple of friends who are professional photographers with fancy high end cameras. They have been amazed at some of the pictures I've taken with my low end Kodak. So my advice is, don't let the name brand decide which camera you will buy. I read lots of reviews on similar cameras from Nikon, Pentax, and Canon when I was shopping around which also had mixed reviews. I think the bottom line is that they are all good cameras if you learn the settings and find the one you are comfortable working with.Read full review
I owned a Kodak 7490 prior to this camera. Here are a few of my dislikes about the 980. The 7490 date stamp was yellow this one is red and in most cases impossible to see. The 7490 had a dock for downloading and recharging. The 980 uses a USB cord to download. To recharge you need to take the 4 AA batteries out to recharge and the charger they send is rediculous. It takes 16 hours and it will also overcharge so you need to keep on it. They tell you to completely discharge before recharging but give you no way of doing it.The battery cover is difficult to close and is very flimsy. The camera itself is very good. It works as described and takes excellent pictures.
the kodak z980 is easy 2 use . I didnt even look at the directions and I not a elec. gadget type. I havent had the prablems that I read about [lens cap dont fit ,need quality sd cardsect].but it is a bit light and cheap feeling , but I like the feel of the heft , I m old school wieght = quality . all in all I like it and ready to see what it can do.
I only buy Kodak cameras and when I saw the specs on this one I had to have it. Many reviews mention the 'cheap appearance' or 'poor construction' and compared to my other Kodak cameras, I can see where they're coming from. What I like about this camera is that it is familiar to use and it takes great pictures. I could care less if it looks as good as my other cameras or if it appears to be less well constructed, the fact is that it functions as advertised. Ease of use and results are all that I was looking for and the Z980 provides both. I rated it as 'Good' simply as a nod to the fact that it isn't flashy compared to my other Kodaks, but I believe that with time I will also deem it's excellent. If you're looking for a camera and like the specs on this one, buy it! You never have to worry about taking a picture of your camera and you'll be able to take plenty of great pics with it.Read full review
It's a great little Adv. Point and Shoot camera. Pictures are pretty good but you will find some pictures to have some noise in them. The zoom is incredible and the auto focus is pretty fast. The one thing is the camera is pretty big especially with the optional grip attached. Overall though it's a pretty good camera. Make sure you get some pretty hefty rechargable batteries (2400 mAh or higher) because it eats thru them quick but they are easy to find. I will enjoy this camera!!
