As one who has studied the town of Pullman I was interested in reading this book to see how accurately it portrayed life in that town. I found the plot to be interesting and the book is salted with just enough details about the town of Pullman to give the reader a glimpse of what life was like in that town in 1893. However, this story spans across all three of the books in this series so unless you plan on reading all three, do not expect to get a complete story out of just one of the books. Sort of like seeing the “To Be Continued” at the end of a one hour television program.
If you are not familiar with Judith McCoy Miller and like well researched historical fiction I recommend this series. It is a story about a young girl who moves to Pullman Illinois from England. This series of three books shows that there are secrets behind this perfectly kept town. Very interesting story of the company who produced the Pullman train in the early 1900's. A very enjoyable way to learn about our countries history. Her other books are a series about Nicodemus Kansas. For a list of her books go to judithmccoymiller.com and see her other historical fiction series - some written with Tracie Peterson. Highly recommend this series of three books.
I have read other of this author's books so purchased this one when I saw it was new 2007. I was not disappointed..great reading, good story line and the first of a series. I am looking forward to the next book.
