It was funny to get a 50th anniversary special edition look so cheap. The little cardboard pieces are not what I would expect for a 50th anniversary special edition. But it is a fun game if you do not mind a lot of rule. It is hard to get people to play it because of the rule book.

The 50th Anniversary Edition uses cardstock punch boards for the armies and fleets. This is a severe downgrade from earlier editions. It lends very little weight to the pieces when viewed; and clarity of the map when viewed is paramount to this game. The board/map on the other hand it clear and gorgeous. I would say to get this one for the map, but use the pieces from an earlier edition.

This was the 50th Anniversary Avalon Hill version of the great game of Diplomacy. The map is a very colorful mounted map. I think the pieces, which are cardboard, should have been wood instead, but I know that at the time, that was not being done with board games.

The game was loved by my son. The only issue we had was some light water damage to the game box and manual. We are guessing it happened in transit. We let it air dry and all is good. Thanks
