Hal Hartley can be an acquired taste. His films are made in a mannered style, with deadpan delivery of dialogue and few natural pauses. I like it very much, but others might find it too artificial or just “bad acting”. If you find this intriguing instead of off-putting, “Henry Fool” is arguably the best entry into Hartley’s world.

this at first seems at best unusual....but watch it 2 or 3 times.......then watch movie called Fay Grim which is part 2 of Henry Fool....and the jigsaw puzzel pieces fall in place...Please forgive me.... a most engaging character is Simon Grim...he should not be taken lightly he is Fay's (idiot so she and her Mom think) Nobel Prize winning brother.....Henry Fool had faith in Simon and nutured him..as he began to write.....BRAVO.!!!!!

I absolutely love this film! The characters make this odd story of an unusual person with many flaws but absolute genius in thought come to life. Parker Posey has been a favorite actress of mine for years in all of her indie films(by all means check some of them out too!)It is such an unusual story and while it is not necessarily a cliff hanger type movie- it will delight and make you think.
It was exactly what I wanted

I wanted to see this movie ever since I stumbled across a clip of it on youtube. It was the "three theres" part. Great characters made the movie fit together just perfectly. Enough drama to keep you entertained but not too much to turn you off of it. Subtle humor that is perfect but kills you if you watch it two or more times. Great, great movie.
