Easy to use
Good image quality
digital camera fanatic
I had been a Sony digital camera enthusiast for many years. Then while at work, I had purchased a Fujifilm FinePix for one of the guys for out in the field. I tried it to take pics of my jewelery and was immediately hooked on the quality of the camera and the ease of use. Ever since then, I have purchased four Fujifilm, upgrading each time. This particular camera is awesome. It takes great pictures at the beach and there are so many settings, it will take me a long time to try them all out. As I mentioned, I have more than one of this brand camera, but cameras to provide different functions. They are quality made; reasonably priced (even better on Ebay of course) and they are made by a trusted company that has been around for a long time. Don't hesitate to purchase one of these cameras. You won't be disappointed.
best little digital camera out there !
This camera yields the sharpest, most detailed images I've ever seen from a pocketable camera. Compared to the more recent Fuji F200EXR and the Panasonic ZS3, the F100FD is, in my view, better. Far better, in fact, than the Panasonic, especially at higher ISO settings. The more recent F200EXR has nothing on its older sibling, which has most of the same features but better image results. The only shortcoming of the Fujis is that the F100 and F200 don't record HD video, which the Panasonic does. (And the Panasonic does have a 10x zoom instead of the Fujis' 5x). However, for me, the image quality trumps all other aspects, and in this respect the F100FD is outstanding, with cleaner, more detailed images than more recent cameras with higher megapixel counts.
My Latest Fuji
I've had good luck in the past with Fuji F20 and F45 cameras. The F100fd looked to me like an F45 with more zoom and image stabilization; an attractive package. The camera is just that. It takes dependably good pictures in Auto and Manual modes. Check the Dpreview Fuji forum for good manual settings. The lens is very sharp. I've only noted three negatives, none of which qualify as a big deal. The menu system is overly complicated, even compared to earlier Fuji cameras The zoom lever is all or nothing. The zoom races from full wide to full telephoto so fast it's hard to stop it in between. When it does stop, it bounces back a little. Not at all accurate. Also, shot to shot times are slow. Even with that, the F100 is an excellent walking around camera. Great size for a shirt or jacket pocket. I find myself often choosing to take it along in preference to a drawer full of other cameras.
Fujifilm FinePix F100fd
The more I use this camera the more I like it. I consistently get great pictures at ISO 800. The picture quality is not as good as my old F20 at ISO 800, but it does compete at ISO 400 when assisted with the image stabilization. There is no problem with purple fringing. I keep this camera in my briefcase and use it often for work and play. I use it as a back-up to my DSLR as well. It does great 640 X 480 video, but I bought it to do stills and rarely do video. I would like to have more manual controls and autobracketing, but I work around these shortcomings easily.
Camera takes very high resolution pictures. Downside is that menus and buttons on camera are very confusing. You really have to take a couple of hours and go through the manual to understand how to properly set up the camera and learn where the controls for important features are located. Once you've done that, you've got a great camera.
