The premise is great - what if the vampires won and humans were the ones hiding? - and the futuristic world is sketched in with mirthful little details like everyone getting blood in their coffee rather than cream. The transfer is good (good enough to let a few digital rough edges show) and the sound is excellent. The making-of materials show the incredible amount of pre-production work done by the Speirig Brothers. I sincerely believe that if the filming schedule hadn't been cut from 55 to 40 days this film would have been an instant classic. As it is it's an excellent document on making a movie today with some really fascinating details on how certain shots were done - you WILL want to watch the movie again after seeing the making-of!

This movie has a great premise, that vampires are ruling the world but running out of human blood to keep their undead life going. The story centers around a vampire who wants to make fake blood so humans won't be hunted and so vampires can continue in their undead state. Instead he finds himself friends amongst humans and attempts to cure his own vampirism. It is well acted, well conceived, but there are a few little weird sidesteps, which detract from the overall movie. If not for those little unnecessary parts, I would have given this movie a full five stars. I also believe the translation to blu-ray was well done. All in all, this is a very good movie for fans of the genre.
A futuristic Earth populated entirely by vampires, and the efforts made by the creatures to ensure that their food supply doesn't run out as humankind is faced with extinction. The year is 2017, and a vampire plague has turned most of the planet's human population into bloodsucking ghouls. As the population of mortals fast begins to dwindle, a vampiric corporation sets out to capture and farm every remaining human while simultaneously researching a consumable blood substitute, headed by undead hematologist Edward Dalton. A good vampire movie and a good storyline. It adds a few very interesting ideas to the vampire mythos. Great gore too, for those that are true horror fans.
Ethan Hawke stars in this futuristic world where vampires rule and humans are in short supply. Seems the vampires have either killed off all the humans or have converted them to vampires and now the future of the vampire race is in doubt. Hawke along with a group of other 'scientists' are close to finding a synthetic version of human blood but they are running out of time. This movie offers a different view into the world of vampires and humans. It is well written and the acting is very good. Hawke, Neill and Dafoe all give very good performances in this one. The Movie Stars: Ethan Hawke, Paul Sonkkila, Sam Neill, Vince Colosimo and Willem Dafoe There are a few things that could be improved but overall it was worth watching.
I do not care for a couple of actors in this movie. Ie the lead. We watched it, we shelved it, hello garage sale.
