I've been playing for years and during that time I've gone through quite a few guitars. Different brands, different styles, but the Dean MLX is the one I keep coming back to. I've owned 5 in my lifetime. But sometimes, life happens, and I've had to sell them to get bills paid. But that was the only reason I chose to give them up. This review will cover the Dean mlx-f that I've purchased last month. The mlx is a pretty solid guitar and honestly, I haven't had any issues with electronics or craftsmanship, now or in the past. It arrived in perfect condition and after a quick fine tuning, and tightening the locking nuts, it was ready to go. The neck is perfectly straight, free of buzz and very comfortable to play on. The body is bigger than most other guitars, and yes, it feels slightly bulky at first, but honestly, after a few minutes of playing you won't even notice it. One thing I do like is the fact that the overall body design gives you multiple comfortable postions to work with while playing seated. Everyone has a different sense of sound, but imo The stock dmt pickups are amazing and produce a much better sound than other stock pickups used by other companies. While, I realize that my amp/pedal are an important factor, I'm able to get pure, beautiful, clean tones, as well as some ferociously aggresive distortion even when low tuning is used. These guitars are made in china, but are set up in the usa by Dean. The action was set up perfectly at what I find to be the perfect height and intonation, was just about spot on. The version I purchased has the floyd rose set up and allows you to do all sorts of madness without going out of tune. The fine tuners on the floyd makes life easier imo. If you set them up the right way, you have a tuning range of a full step for downtuning or drop tuning. Heavy strings work perfectly fine on this guitar (after adjustments) and if its your thing you can tune down to b. (More adjustments required) I highly recommend this guitar.Read full review
