|Shape your PC listening experience with a Sound Blaster X-Fi sound card by Creative Labs. The SB0460 model is more than just a dedicated audio solution for your computer. This card is a sound processor that examines audio streams in real-time to refine and enhance them. Those capabilities make this product an excellent option for both gaming rigs and home theater computers alike. This SB0460 model uses Peripheral Component Interconnect or PCI to connect to and communicate with the motherboard in your computer. Note that this card requires a conventional PCI slot as opposed to PCI Express. If PCIe is all your system has, then it is still possible to connect the card using a PCI-to-PCI-Express adapter. The listening experience will be the same in either configuration. It’s also important to note that this board is suitable for low-profile slots with or without an adapter.Creative Labs shipped the Sound Blaster X-Fi sound card with drivers for Windows 7 32-bit and 64-bit. This solution also supports older operating systems, such as Windows XP. In addition, Creative Labs has published a driver for newer Windows editions, including 8 and 10. In many cases, Windows will handle the driver update automatically when you install the card. You have the option of using a native driver as well.At the rear panel of the component, you’ll find a number of line-out jacks. Jack one supports headphones via a 3.5-mm plug. It also accepts inputs from left and right front speakers or a home theater receiver. Jack two lets you add rear left and right speakers for 4.1, 5.1, and 6.1 setups. It will accept side right as well for a 7.1 setup. Jack three is used to add a front center speaker, a rear center speaker, and a subwoofer to 5.1, 6.1, and 7.1 speaker setups. Note that there is also an AD_Link connector. This connector is commonly called a joystick or game port. This option is useful for playing games with a legacy controller that does not feature USB.The X-Fi sound cards by Creative support three modes: entertainment mode, game mode, and an audio creation mode. This sound card is THX-certified and supports Creative MultiSpeaker Surround (CMSS). CMSS can shape the multi-channel sound to headphones or mix up mono or stereo for multi-speaker listening. Via the Creative software, this board features a flexible mixer control. You can use it to select and mix sources, adjust master volume, separate treble and bass, adjust the balance, and so forth. This board also fully supports Dolby Digital, DD Surround Ex, and DTS-ES.The X-Fi sound card is a true audiophile solution. It even features Xtreme Music, which is Creative Lab’s proprietary solution for sculpting music for headphones as well as speaker environments of 2.1 and up. This hardware not only influences sound that originates on your PC, but it also influences streams and the like from local networking sources as well as the internet. It enables you to take advantage of hardware acceleration and digital effects as well.|

Good sound quality
Easy to install
I bought two and maybe I should have bought 3.
Been using these since they launched. At this price I bought two and am thinking I should have bought 3. Installed easily on my Xeon Windows HTPC and sounds much better than the onboard sound. It is also much more flexible or versatile. I'm using this mostly with Foobar 2000 in this HTPC and no problems at all. Movies sound better and pretty good NORMAL Analog Audio recording via "What You Hear". It can easily handle two or even 3 players playing at the same time ala Old School DJ mixing.

CREATIVE LABS SOUND BLASTER EXTREME X-FI SB0460 7.1 PCI SOUND CARD
The Card does work, without any software it is useless. Prior to the purchase I made sure Software and Drivers were available. The Speaker System CANNOT be used, ONLY the headphones!! I have the Creative 7.1 Surround Sound Speaker System, and witout the ability to see the jacks Once I got it I found it is not compatible, A BAD PURCHASE

Good sound quality but prone to hardware failure.
This card was purchased to replace one which had failed. Prior experience with this model card was the main reason for the purchase since it was known that the sound quality was very good and that it would work in my PC. Though providing excellent sound quality, the hardware could be better. One of these cards failed and a capacitor replacement restored it to working order. Another failed hard and was not repairable. Both failures happened after a few years of use. In summary, great sound performance but the hardware is not as reliable as expected.

Compatable? Junk? Worth Your Time? READ THIS : )
I would rate myself as a good computer operator. I can operate AutoCAD 2010, Access 2010, Excell 2010, Word 2010 Powerpoint 2010, Notebook 2010, Outlook 2010, install/remove software, upgrade hardware, even manipulate BIOS. Can I write programs and manipilate my Registry? NO! I am running Windows 7 ULTIMATE 32 bit protected by Norton 360 v4.0. I bought this Sound Card all happy that I would be able to listen to my mp3's cryatal clear through X-Fi. Through my research Creative Labs said it was compatable with Windows 7. Microsoft said the SBO460 wasn't compatable with Windows 7. I bought it anyway thinking I Creative Labs knew something Microsoft didn't, boy was I ever wrong. I disabled the intigraded soundcard my motherboard came with first, then I installed the latest driver for my OS directly from Creative Labs website. After a few days/hours of operation "I noticed I couldn't get any sound for about 10 - 20 minutes after startup and Windows Media Player would FREEZE only when I played music." The only way I could shut down Media Player is by using the Windows Task Mannager. After about a week of monitoring the situation first updating the drivers then uninstalling them and reinstalling then after rebooting. I got the same results, "I couldn't get any sound for about 10 - 20 minutes after startup and Windows media player would FREEZE." I called Creative Labs Tech Support and they had me uninstall and reinstall everything by folowing the links they provided which were the same as I was doing anyway, "I couldn't get any sound for about 10 - 20 minutes after startup and Windows media player would FREEZE." I called Creative Labs back and they asked me to stop updating my system using Windows Update??? Yea, you heard me right. They didn't want me to follow Mocrosofts recomendations... I was about to give up and trash the card when I decided to try Winamp (a different music player). Now I still can't get any sound for about 10 - 20 minutes after startup but, "WINAMP DOESN'T FREEZE." Is Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi PCI (SB0460) Sound Card compatable with Windows 7 ULTIMATE 32 bit? NO!!!! Should I have trusted Microsoft about compatability with the Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi PCI (SB0460) Sound Card? YES!!!! Save yourself the hastle if you have Windows 7 Ultimate. Get a different sound card. Creative Labs technicians didn't know any more about how to fix the issue than I did. They only thing they provided me is reassurance that I did everything I could. They said there was nothing wrong wtih the card and wouldn't give me a RMA number to get it fixed. I am stuck with a computer that I can't play music of videos until my sound card wants to work (10 - 20 minutes later). This is not written out of anger. I am trying to help others from making the same mistake I did by trusting Creative Labs website about the SB0460 being compatable with Windows 7. It was misleading information on their part and should be reomved from their site or they should update their driver. Thank You, Alan
X-Fi Extreem Music
I like the quality of sound it produces. Setup is easy. The music player has a button that will open the library so you can select from different lists, librarys, or individual tracks. Unfortunetly the only other adjustment on the music player is the volume. If you want to make any other adjustments, you have to open another application because Creative didn't create a button on the music player to open this for you. One thing I don't like is when a song is ending and it fades away the sound gets distorted. If you buy this sound card wou will happy you did, it has a huge selection of fine adjustments that produce wonderful sound.
