This Canon FS100 Camcorder , in my opinion is a great little camcorder , the reasons being is that I can record audio from an external wireless microphone when needed , the battery holds a charge very well and last longer than I expected which is great , it's easy to set up for taking still photos , which turn out very well and to record videos , the different modes on zoom quality is nice and the zoom speed adjustments are excellent . Overall I would recommend this Canon FS100 to someone who wants an easy to use and easy to set up camcorder which also takes great still photos and videos that is also very compact and lightweight , it's high quality and many options for different modes in video and still shots are also a plus , all the high quality that a Canon product has to offer.

The FS100 has an external audio input, making it about the most inexpensive camcorder with this feature. It's NOT really a microphone input, unless your microphone has a preamplifier. So don't expect to use it with a computer microphone directly. Unlike the FS10 and FS11, the FS100 does NOT have built-in flash memory. You need to use a standard size SD card of class 2 or faster (no problem nowadays). Each GB of memory seems to translate into 15-20 minutes of highest quality video. This is NOT an HD camera, but the video still looks good. Battery life is amazingly good, 2-3 hours. The video files produced have a .MOD extension - unusual, but if you have trouble, you can just rename them with a .MPG extension. This camera will also take still pictures, but they're not terribly good resolution.Read full review
I bought this camera to mount on my bow using the threaded hole that's normally used to mount a stabilizer. Had to make a simple mount with a block of wood and a small metal bracket to do so. Although the video quality is not HD it is MUCH better than the video I've seen on cameras designed expressly for this purpose. In addition, the optical zoom is really nice for taking close-ups of wildlife. The camera is only 10 oz. and very compact so it is not cumbersome at all. When you set the zoom at your desired setting it holds that setting even if you turn the camera off. When you turn it back on it's right where you left it. The picture stabilization works pretty well although it will not keep the picture real steady when I shoot the bow, but you really can't expect it to do that. When I brace the bow against my leg and hold onto the handle I've been able to take some outstanding close-up zoomed video of deer with virtually no wobble. This camera fits this purpose perfectly and I'd highly recommend it to someone trying to do something similar.Read full review

This is a GREAT little camcorder! The price is certainly right, and it delivers a lot for a small price tag! I'm nearly 60 years old and this is my very first camcorder, so it HAD to be lightweight and fairly easy to use. Got mine on eBay for a super price! It came without the manual, but I found the free download at Canon.com! I also recommend getting a 16GB memory card, though the 8GB that came with it gives me over 2 hours even in XP mode. I also got 2 genuine Canon bp-808 batteries which gives me over 6 hours of power between the two! I have not tried to upload any videos to my computer yet, but I'll come back when I do. I read reviews on Amazon to find out the quirks if any of this camera, that's how I knew to upgrade the memory card. The instructions are a bit tedious, but if I actually read AND follow them, the camera does what I need. It has a photo camera built in which takes good photos, but not great ones. Also there's a mini video light on the front which is good. I had to get used to where to point the camera to get a full picture in the frame. It's not a straight on shot, you have to film slightly off to the right of where it seems it should be pointed. Also haven't tried the fade-in, fade-out, black and white or sepia filming yet, but I'm delighted it's there. Overall, I'm having a blast filming my 35 year dollhouse miniatures collection! Can't wait to share the videos!!! I really love this little camera!Read full review
This is my second one, purchased to replace the one I dropped onto concrete and it finally stopped working after at least seven years. Works very well, results far beyond what my needs require. Remarkably small, great zoom. I expect to have unit number two for a long time.
