|The Canon EF IS USM is a small and lightweight 4x zoom lens that is a good starting point for photographers looking for a telephoto camera lens to take pictures of wildlife, sports, or other outdoor activities where some background blur is allowed or desired. The lens will work on Canon digital cameras that use the EF mounting feature and it uses filters that are 58 mm in size. The aperture is f/4-f/5.6 and the focal length is from 75-300 mm. This Canon camera lens is identical to the EF 75-300 mm f/4-5.6 III USM except that it uses a DC motor to power the automatic focus rather than a USM. Focusing is smooth and quiet. The Canon EF IS USM was Canon’s first lens that came with image stabilizing, a built-in feature that corrects for movement while the image is being taken. The IS feature on this Canon camera lens must be turned off if the camera is tripod mounted. Lead-free glass is used in the construction of the lens, along with Canon’s special Super Spectra coating that helps reduce flare and ghosting while boosting color and contrast capture. When it comes to finding a good telephoto camera lens, more features usually mean a bigger price tag. For people who are on a budget or for those who just love simplicity, the Canon EF IS USM is a good, solid lens that does what it is designed to do — take good pictures of objects from a distance.|

Woth Every Penny
This is the older version of this lens (the newer one is a 70-300), I have had it for about a year and use it mostly for aviation photography. It is quick and accurate on focusing, and stays sharp well into the 200mm range, but does go a little soft as you get closer to 300mm. I have used the IS feature a few times in low light situations such as my brother's graduation, and while I am glad I have it I have learned not to rely on it too much as it only improves camera shake by two stops. There are only two complaints, this is a heavy piece of glass and can take it's toll on your neck if you have it mounted to an EOS-1 or EOS-3 even with out the booster. My other complaint is that this lens is a "creeper" if you have it hanging from a strap the lense can bee pulled from 75mm to the 100mm position by its own wieght. Even with these two concerns, it is a great lens and worth every penny.
Great Lens for Photographers with Moderate Experience
This lens is a great choice for your moderately experienced photographer. This lens body does NOT have the IS feature and requires a steady hand (or use of a tripod). Also requires some know how of proper camera settings because the focal length of the lens is greater than the square law of the flash. You can open your aperture, but, this also adds the risk of even more blur and loss of fine details. Great for outdoor use, not perfect inside, but I'm still in love. =)
Canon EF 75-300mm f/4-5.6 IS USM Lens
I am happy with this purchase. I was very involved in photography as a young adult and have gotten reinvolved in digital photography after being given a D20 and upgrading to a D40. I wanted a lens that was within my budget, easy to use and good until I could transition to a higher quality, more expense lens. I use this lens to take pictures of wild-life, kids' sporting events and nature scenes. I am very happy with the lens and the pictures it takes.
Built tough and does what I want in a light weight package
I bought this lens because my other telephoto lens is just too heavy to carry around for any length of time. This one is built rugged, lighter, and more compact. Sure, doesn't let in as much light, but I don't shoot in low light that much anyway. It works great indoors with a flash and outdoors without a flash. The image stabilizer works great indoor or out. I find that the older I get, the more shaky I get so I need that IS system. The auto focus is fast, the zoom is easy and fast, and the lens just looks good too. You can find used versions of this lens and they work just fine. I think you will like it.
Canon EF 75-300mm f/4-5.6USM Lens
Fast Lens easy use without having to use a Tripod, and I have taken shots pointing upwards downwards etc.without the Tele sliding back or forth. This a common complaint about this Lens but so far have not had this experience. Pics. are a little out of focus on the outer border when shot at maximum Telephoto, but over all I am satisfied with it. The Price was a little high, but the condition is excellent for a used Lens and its in perfect working condition.A good buy and a satisfied customer.Thank you E-Bay.
