When the batteries worked, this little chainsaw did a very good job cutting up small branches and such. Though I never experienced any sort of issue with the chainsaw, the available B&D 18 volt NiCad batteries are another story; therefore, before you even consider purchasing this battery-operated chainsaw at a ‘good deal’, do understand that it will eventually become costly in the ‘long run’. Please read on... I had received several B&D 18 volt tools as a gift; i.e., weed trimmer, yard blower ('electric broom'), hedge trimmer, chainsaw, radio, drill, jig saw, circular saw, etc. All of these tools utilize the exact same 18 volt 'Firestorm' battery. After about four years of ownership, three out of the four battery chargers I had accumulated ceasing working. Some were of simple design without indicator lights and others were a bit more complex. When the last one 'croaked', I eventually bought the best B&D battery charger that was available at the time and that thing had been working just fine. Sadly, in addition to the 'crappy' battery chargers, the required 18 volt NiCad batteries don't last long enough to complete a medium sized project. As a matter of fact, out of the twelve batteries I had purchased/owned (yes, I too was forced to purchase additional ones throughout the years), only three would allow me to perform any decent amount of work before the units just go 'dead'. Also, for me, the batteries were too large and too heavy, which in turn, made the tools even heavier. In addition, being forced to 'lug around' extra heavy batteries whenever performing yard work was a problem...especially after I had traveled about fifty yards or so away from my tool shed. Even though I had kept the batteries in 'perfect charging condition', I too had been forced to purchase several replacement batteries. Since each battery costs at least forty bucks or so, replacing them (just to keep the tools usable) is a real PITA, as well as a very expensive proposition. Besides, where I reside, nobody actually carries the replacement batteries anyway. So, last week, I gave the entire lot to my oldest son with him understanding that he will need to expect to purchase some replacement batteries, as now only one of twelve batteries will still hold only a five minute charge and the others are just simply 'dead'...sheesh!Read full review

I have two other Black & Decker 18 volt tools and love how easy they are to use. I'm not comfortable trying to start up and use a gas chainsaw so decided to try this one. Got it, took it out of the package, read the manual, put it together in 5 minutes, put one of my other already charged batteries in it and cut away half a 27" diameter stump in less than 10 minutes just to try it out. It's great! Can't wait to use it again. It's more powerful than I thought it would be but not too much for me. (I'm a petite female). It's very light weight and small and I don't have to worry about getting the gas/oil mixture right or fiddling with the choke while trying to pull a cord really fast. If you like electric tools as I do, this one is a winner.

Amazing little saw. Handy and very useful for light and medium duty tasks. I cut through a small 6 in. tree with it. Its not made for that but it will handle it. The secret is making sure the chain is sharp. If the chain is maintained, the battery will last all day. If the chain is dull, it will wear out the battery in half the time. This is a handy saw to take camping because it will cut firewood in 1/8th the time it takes to do it with an axe. If you get and extra battery, you'll never run out of power for any task. I'm glad I got it.
This will speed up the smaller wood cutting previously done by hand sawing which can be tedious in confined spaces. A great feature is its lightness compared to my main chainsaw, the cordless stihl.

Great little chain saw. Light weight and easy to handle. I use it to cut limbs up to about a 6 inch diameter. A much better choice than a hand saw or starting up a gas chain saw for small jobs.
