It is a spot cleaner best for pulling and picking up spills or pet messes quick without getting on all fours and putting some elbow grease behind it like the portable cleaners will have you do. I have three children so I have lots of spots and many set in stains because I didn't have a machine like this! My youngest spilled lemonade the day I got this so I used it, it picked all of it up! I just received my carpet shampooer today a long time ago I owned a carpet shampooer but it wasn't a bissell.
