Long battery life
Good quality screen
Bigger is Not Necessarily Better
I bought the 8.9" HD Kindle, after having owned a first Kindle Fire for over a year. I was thinking it could be a substitute for a laptop. I was wrong, it is just like the smaller kindle, but not "purse size" Yes, it is bigger, but not that much, as the border around the screen is an inch wide. I bough a small bluetooth keyboard, and it works like a phone keyboard, but for someone like me who does not text frequently, the words often came up incomplete and if I made a typing error I would have to take time to edit. So now I basically have two reading devices, and I take the smaller one when I am going out. The bigger one works great, and I can get the same books I purchased on both at the same time, but I wish I had put the money on a laptop instead.
BIG Kindle=BIG Entertainment
Having experienced the smaller versions and been quite satisfied, I wanted to try the larger screen for movie watching and Hidden Object games. This Kindle delivered that and more. Inititially I wasn't sure I wanted a Kindle because I want to keep printed books around for a long time. My daughter gave me a 7 HD for Christmas several years ago and I fell under it's spell immediately. Because I was having many doctor's appointments and tests, my BFF gave me the small 6 HD last year for Christmas and it was very convenient to take and go most places. Now I have the 8.9 HD and have a Kindle for every occasion when friends aren't borrowing one or the other. I have a terrific daughter and BFFand love them dearly for bringing the Kindle experience into my life. Whatever size you might decide on, each offers more than just reading. You can play games, shop, read e-mail, access social media, take pictures and send those pictures, skype with friends, listen to music, watch tv or movies. .they are Android platforms so thousands of apps will work on them. Plus you have ample storage in your Cloud for all those books you want to read, movies, magazines, albums, games and apps. Just keep what you want to access at the moment on the device and swap items in and out of your Cloud and never worry about not having enough space. One advantage to have more than one Kindle is that one is always charged up and ready to go when you are. All of mine are Wi-Fi only because I don't want to pay another monthly fee for 4G but to each his own.

Library in your hands!
The Kindle Fire HD is like having your own library in your hands. What took me years & a lot of time & money to assemble in hard copy was largely recreated in a few days on Kindle. Additionally, you can highlight text & share it on Social Media, a big plus. You can store PDF's as well, images, and even games. With Wi-Fi & 4G capability, it's like having a small computer in your hands. An amazing value!

GREAT looks, value, and speed.
GREAT, I am not a book reader, I bought this after seeing the picture quality on the one that I bought for my wife. It looks incredible, I surf the net, play games, and watch video on it. While its true that the Kindle has no micro SD card slot the 32 Gb holds a lot and if you need more it offers you Google cloud drive so there is no problem with storage space. The battery lasts a long time, much longer then my old tablet, it transfers files easily from my computer and is probably the most user friendly tablet that I have had and it is very fast.

DISCONTINUED PRODUCT! Get It While You Can!
ATTENTION: THIS REVIEW IS FOR A DISCONTINUED PRODUCT! But all the same, grab this Fire if it is still available in various venues. (One good thing about buying a discontinued product is that it can be a real bargain!) Pro's: ===== 1. Very easy to set up and use. If you have an issue, you can e-mail Customer Service and they will get back to you right away. 2. The Home Page is very well set up and thought-out. There is a Search Option right on the Home Page that will help you find a specific item on the device. 3. Colors are vivid and sharp. Graphics are excellent. 4. Movie and video resolution is excellent. Movies and videos run very well with no "stuttering" when there is a good wireless connection. 5. Easy to find a wireless connection and link it with the device. 6. Fast and responsive. Con's: ===== 1. Does not use Flash, so if you come across a video requiring the Flash Plug-In, it won't play. 2. Silk Browser is not quite ready for prime time. There are times that it hangs and crashes, especially if the web page in question is "busy". The browsing has to be "managed" in that the cache has to be frequently cleaned out (this does not happen automatically). Fortunately, you have an option as to how you wish to view the web site (Desktop or Mobile). Usually Mobile works best when the site is an especially busy one such as weather.com. 3. There are some games that were originally desiged to run on a PC that are offered in the "Apps for Android" store. You have to be careful which ones you buy because some of them are fairly big and, depending on what you have on the device already, will not run. So be very careful when selecting games. 4. Does not use a true Android Operating System, but a modified one. So some games available on Google Play, for instance, will not necessarily be available for this device. 5. Not great battery life, and if you play games it can go down pretty fast. Even with these caveats, I would still highly recommend this tablet for basic use and "non-fancy" web use.
