1 The mobo has all the usb and connection ports in a logical place to connect them to the Tower case. 2 The mobo with the correct updated bios will support gen 6 or gen 7 intel processor. I ran a gen 6 G4400 pentium no problem. WIth the i7-7700 gen 7 I needed the updated 3504 BIOS. You need the gen 6 cpu to get the mobo started with an OS to update the bios. Even though ASUS brags about a EZ-bios update function it needs an additional card to mount to the motherboard to do it. The card does not exist. More vaporware. This can add a cost of up to $100 for a startup gen 6 CPU. Once the motherboard was hooked up, I installed windows 7 pro 64, windows 8.1 Pro 64 and win 10 Pro 64. The motherboard easily took the install of the operating systems. The only problems were letting microsoft install drivers that crashed the OS. Once I turned off driver updates and succesfully downloaded the numerous drivers from ASUS, the mobo works well. 3. The mobo is really fast, but the OC feature is too fast to install windows 10 and too fast to run windows 7 and 8. I had to set the overclock mode to energy saving for windows 7 and 8. Even in enrgy saving mode it screams. Overall, I only give it four outof five stars, because it does not have the advertised ez bios feature and i had to get another cpu to get it set up.Read full review

The Z170-A has great features and is not out of date despite being a few years old. Works best with an Intel i5 6600k, but other Intel i5 CPUs such as the 7400 work great on this motherboard too. I've been happy and productive using the Z170-A since 2018 with multiple monitors and never experiencing any lag of computing speed.

Easy to use and easy to update BIOS via the BIOS menu. You do not need to install OS as other users have previous stated. Just use any 6th Gen CPU, download and extract BIOS unto a USB Flash drive. Plug flash drive into USB port, choose EZ Flash on BIOS menu, select USB drive and it will automatically find the bios update and ask you if that is the correct one. Very easy.

The board along with an 17 6th generation chip and 64 gb of new ram was installed only to find out later that the bios needed to be upgraded and in the meantime trying to get the computer to react as expected took almost a week with two techs until we did the upgrade on the bios. There should be in big print that this board, that without the new bios installed, it could mess up your hard drive because it did two of the three that I have in this computer. Once I finally got it all squared away, the board seems to be reacting good and as it settles into its new home and is getting faster as it burns its way in.. TAKE NOTE iF YOU BUY THIS BOARD, INSTALL THE NEW BIOS INSTANTLY FROM THE ASUS SIGHT AND THEN MAKE YOUR ADJUSTMENTS FROM THERE. THE COMPUTER IS USED FOR A WORLDWIDE SHOW VIA THE NET..... I spent a long time looking for a motherboard before settling on this one. Great performance for its price. It matches my case (NZXT Phantom 530) and looks beautiful. Haven't encountered any issues yet. Only issue (on my part): If you happen to install Kraken x61 with this motherboard in a NZXT Phantom 530 case, one x61 fan will not fit due to the metal part sticking out from the top of the motherboard.
