A sensitive and subtle adaptation of Anthony Powell's series of novels. Films that span generations have grown in popularity in recent years and have tended to fall into predictable formats. "Dance to the Music of Time" avoids that trap and offers a sensitive and very English portrayal of upper-class and intellectual life in England before, during and after WWII. A star-studded cast combine to entertain the viewer throughout the seven-hour production. Twelve novels and forty years are compressed into a tight and skilful whole. Both leading roles and cameo performances are excellent and faithful to the novels. All that is missing from the film series is the length of time it takes to plough through the written word. For anglophiles and lovers of Anthony Powell's writing this is an important production.Read full review

BBC productions have always been my favorites, but this is sooooooooooo boring that I do not know if I will be able to finish the series. I am really disappointed with my purchase. There is no storyline. In the he first two discs, the characters ramble on with inane remarks and nothing is accomplished. The male characters have the same personality. I can't say that one is any different from the other. The period clothing is the best part of this production.
