  • Think you Know Chris Mars? Better Think Again.

If you have always that thought that Paul Westerberg had all the talent in the Replacements, and that the rest of the band were just hanging on and supporting him, this album should completely dispel such belief. In fact, after listening to Horseshoes and Hand Grenades it seems pretty clear that the Replacements would have benefited greatly had Chris Mars been granted a bigger role. This is truly as solo as a project can get, with Mars writing all the songs, playing 90% of all the instrumentation, and even doing the album artwork. As for the music itself, it is fantastic, with chops, urgency and enthusiasm that seemed to be missing from the last few Replacements albums, and even from Westerberg's solo albums that were to soon to come. Thinking of Chris Mars as merely being the drummer in a great alternative rock band of the 1980's is an injustice to his true talent. And this album proves it in spades. Highly recommended.

  • Excellent album

I really enjoyed Chris Mars' first solo album. It's a pity it's not on spotify or youtube
