American Standard James Taylor American Standard, the newest album by James Taylor is a love-letter to song and the songwriters who write them. Like his dear friend and fellow songwriting genius Carole King, JT went to songwriting school - aka as "the college of musical knowledge" - by learning these songs. They were the soundtrack of his parents' lives, and so a big part of his upbringing, same as with Carole, Paul McCartney, John Lennon, Paul Simon and so many of that generation raised on these songs as we were raised on their's. The sophistication baked into them - the ingenuity of lyrical linguistics, both poignant and clever, merged with gloriously remarkable timless melodicism of the heart - represents to JT a "highwater mark for this art of songwriting."

    James Taylor Does Friendly Classics

    This cd from James Taylor includes his versions of a group of pop classics with a focus on acoustic guitar and small backup. James Taylor fans should really enjoy the relaxing, familiar melodies. I have been a fan for many years and this is very welcome. I would hope for a follow-up. Cd was new and priced amazingly low. I later bought several more for gifts.

    still a James Taylor fan

    But - this album should be recalled. What was James thinking. This album is mostly awful versions of wonderful songs. Some of the songs are absolutely butchered IMHO. Bad elevator music. James Taylor is a great singer / songwriter. One of my favorites. I'll just have to find a way to forget this album exists.

    Fun James Taylor album!

    Fun James Taylor album! I was a bit worried about enjoying old American standards, but this album was very good. There is an interesting mix of songs, some of which I knew and loved, and others I had never heard before. James Taylor has a beautiful voice and puts a new spin on every song.
