  • Great mic for voiceover if used right

Great deal on an open box mic. It’s practically brand new. It’s one hell of a mic for voiceover, even though it’s designed for musical instruments. As long as you use it off axis for voice, it can almost pass for an MKH 416. I own a 416! The P170 rejects reverb quite well and avoids the phase cancellation of the mkh 416. However, the p170 is incredibly sensitive to plosives even from a distance. You can’t talk directly into mic AT ALL. The good thing is you don’t have to worry as much about reflective surfaces with this mic. This mic is great for rooms with limited acoustic treatment.

  • Poor mans AKG C-451

I used to own a recording studio and had the big brother AKG C-451 mics. These P170's are very close in sound and build quality. I love these things on drum overheads, acc guitar, and with the 20db pad in on a guitar amp even! Great product. Thanks Harmon for keeping the quality at an incredible price. I need two more! No I don't work for AKG, no this isn't a robot.

  • Great instrument microphone.

Very flat, true response to acoustic instruments. Good background noise rejection. Found to be easy to place and achieve clean recordings.

  • it just works

This microphone just works as well as you need a small diaphragm condenser. Good Frecuency Response, low noise, and it' s versatile for instruments.

  • A whole lot of mic for the money

for the price, this mic, or the equivelant in the mic set the P4, is the most cost effective and qualtiy mic for hi-hats and ride cymbals, as well as overhead applications for drums. you can't find a mic at this price point with its capabilities.
