  • Kay Thompson was a fascinating woman of many talents who is sadly not known by many today

    At first, I only wanted to read about Kay's work at MGM as a vocal coach and arranger of songs. I wanted to know more about her work with Judy Garland and the Arthur Freed musical unit at MGM. However, once I finished the chapter on those years (circa 1943-1948), I was compelled by the author's writing that I wanted to read the whole biography. I continued to read to the end of the book, and then I went back to the beginning to read about her childhood, her teen years, and her start on radio as a singer. I learned several things from this book: I learned that Kay was a big success as a radio star, and after her MGM stint she had the highest paying nightclub act with Andy Williams (with whom she had a May-December romance) and his brothers. I also learned that she wrote five books based ...
