On a hunch I attached a 23" HDMI wide-screen (16:9) 1920x1080 monitor to this and it works PERFECTLY. My Acer monitor was designed for a PC, so this was a very pleasant surprise! After watching several DVD's and a half-dozen Blu-Rays over the last month... DVD's look/play terrific and Blu-Ray disks kick-A!!! Fantastic image and sound quality on this ~$50 (used) compact device!!!! But, here's why I gave this system 4 out of 5 stars: The design and layout of the buttons on the remote leave a lot to be desired. Play/pause/forward/reverse/ / are all the same size and black color! They all look and feel the same in a dark theater environment, so I'm always pressing the wrong button! If you require reading glasses you better keep 'em handy!! It does take 2xAA batteries, though. Rechargeables work just fine. Finally, the BDP-S185 has one flaw that really bugs me. Volume control on the remote bypasses the RCA audio out ports! You have absolutely NO control over audio levels in this configuration. You must control volume from your own audio system! Really, Sony?!?! I do not connect to the internet with this gizmo so I cannot review those features. This has NOT hindered me from watching any DVD's or Blu-Ray's, however.Read full review
I got this little machine for my wife to play videos in her small classroom. I put the HDMI cable to a Samsung computer monitor and the AUX output to a set of computer speakers. After it was set up it all ran perfectly and the audio was in sync with the video and the quality of picture and sound was very good. This is with all older used equipment. Happy Wife.

This is a great little Blu-Ray Player. The primary reason I bought it is that unlike Samsung and LG players this Sony player will handle AVCHD discs with 1080p60 AVC video. This is the output I get from my Panasonic DMC-FZ150 camera and most blu-ray players can only handle 1080p24 and 1080i formats. The player does very well on USB material - plays anything I've got, and of course standard blu-rays play fine including BD-Rs. What I don't like about the product is twofold - it has no slow motion capability; you can freeze frame and then move forward frame by frame, but there's no slow motion I can find. The second major fault is that it only supports coax digital audio out, there's no optical digital audio output.
Works as advertised. Fast free delivery and easy set-up. Purchased this since I get faster connections speeds through an ethernet connection as opposed to WIFI. I currently have both Amazon prime and Netflix. Tried to watch a Netflix movie but I did not get a fast connection, so I switched to Amazon to watch the same movie without a pause or spooling interruption. Still trying to figure out if there is a way to 'Shuffle' my stations on Pandora, the way I can on the computer. But overall this solved my connection problems and to receive HD video and high quality stereo audio fed directly into my audio system for great music as well as movie sound, even when I turn off the TV.
I purchased both the newly updated 13" MacBook Air and the updated 13" MacBook Pro the day they were announced at WWDC and released for sale in June 2012. After using the two machines side-by-side for a couple weeks now, I can say that the MacBook Air offers superior performance in virtually every respect to such a degree that I've pretty much stopped using my brand new MacBook Pro. Of course the Air (which I got factory upgraded to the 2.0 GHz i7 processor and 8GB of RAM) is lighter, slimmer, and sleeker than the Pro, and yes, it does have a much higher resolution display, but I was surprised just how much faster the MacBook Air is compared to the Pro is despite the Air's slower CPU clock speed. The SSD hard drive on the MacBook Air makes an enormous difference in everything from casual web browsing to video editing. This Sony model year of Blu-Ray and standard DVD players are THE best in playing discs on which other players will stall and stick. The particular electronics that were used in these players is best that I've found in playing otherwise hard-to-read DVDs/Blu-rays. I own 5 (yes) of these Blu-ray Sony players and 4 (yes) of these same form factor Sony DVD players. I have them installed at multiple viewing areas of my house and also in cases for vacation trips. Most reliable players I've ever found!

I am happy with purchase the only problem I have is with Sony everything is paperless so of course a product without users guide why doesn't Sony provide called Sony and they said download it that's o.k if printer was working maybe they should lay one of there employees off and that would make up for twenty cents worth of paper ya think they would want people to appreciate. There product with guide so people would get most out of and maybe buy more for other rooms in house let's go so paperless no one has jonbd so haven't a great opion until I can use to potential Fu paperless worrs
I bought this player so I could eliminate some of the cables that I have running from a mounted television. I wanted to be able to access Hulu, Netflix, Pandora, etc... on my television without the use of additional devices (which only served that purpose). To my surpise this device only allowed for a wired connection which was beyond insufficient for my needs. I had to return this device and purchase one with Wifi capabilities. It also comes with a usb drive that will apparently only allow for file access. I thought if I attached a wireless adapter I would be able to get the player online...WRONG. This is glorified DVD player because without access to the internet one cannot even access the blu ray content on the DVD (you can still play blu rays I think I did not even try). Once it was determined that I would not be able to connect to the internet without using a wired connected the player went back in the box and back to the seller. Save yourself the trouble and headache and purchase the player with Wifi because if not now, later you will want the convenience of utilizing this device to it maximum capabilities and you will be limited by the requirement of using the uber inefficient and unsightly wires.Read full review
I FINALLY broke down and bought a blu-ray player. I bought this at a decent price. It was the price and size of the machine that made be choose this model. Name brand Sony. It plays DECENT BUT NOT perfect. It plays normal DVD's fine but some Blu-ray discs take time to load after giving a warning you MAY NEED ANOTHER MACHINE? Come on. I do NOT like the buttons for turning the machine off/on, play, etc are on top not on the front of the machine. Where mine is located hard to see and use. Design of the machine I do NOT like the slant in it. Why not make it flat? OK, the instruction book/manual is LACKING in a lot of information. There are buttons on the remote blue, red, yellow & green that the manual does not explain in detail what they are for, so WHY ARE THEY THERE? Remote sure has a "Netflix" button. Pushing another company on us. I do NOT like the display function on the machine from the remote button. TOO much information that blocks a lot of the program you are trying to watch.Read full review
