This game in the series is the last decent Call of Duty. The WW2 storylines are the best and is what made the Call of Duty franchise the remarkable. Black Ops 1 is the last decent by-product that will forever remain during the best era of the series. Good single-player, decent multiplayer, and the zombies, of course are great. So sad that the franchise has catered to crybaby 15-20 year old Call of Duty "warriors" as I like to call them. The 30+ year olds will remember the series for what it truly is and what it was made to be.

Call of duty black ops the only game I really wanted from the bundle didn't work. However modern warfare 3 did. I believe I got a good deal so I won't complain too much.

Preface: There are no spoilers ahead! Feel free to read on without the fear of me revealing plot points... Call of Duty: Black Ops is a fun game. It doesn't try to reinvent the genre, it just tries to be fun. There are way better and more inventive shooters out there , but Treyarch nows that as long as you stick to one formula that works - people will buy it (as evidenced by it's sales). I'm not suggesting that sales equals quality - i'm just saying that if it ain't broke, don't fix it! The storyline is relatively short, but I would say that the story is the best of any Call of Duty game. The controls are tight and responsive, the set pieces are awesome, and the general level of polish is high. Of course any COD fan would recognize that the multiplayer is the most important part of this franchise. And boy does it deliver - almost all of the unbalanced crap from mw2 is gone - super ranged shotguns, quick scoping, unfair perks, and superhuman grenade launchers of death - all of that has been eliminated. Add to that, a huge amount of customization and new stuff, like face paint, gun camo, custom game modes, wager matches, and much much more... Yes, the multiplayer is, in a word, awesome! Overall, Call of Duty: Black Ops has a fun multiplayer component and a decent campaign. It appeals to the masses, and while that may be a no no for some gamers - that doesn't make it a bad game. I liken it to Toy Story 3 (not in content of course - I don't think Woody would choke a man to death with a tiny string during the Vietnam War, or would he (get it, would he)) in that it's not in any way revolutionary, but it is fun and appeals to a broad audience. I give it a 7/10, but I put 4 stars because eBay doesn't have a 3 and a half stars option.Read full review
I will start off with the negatives first. Combat training was supposed to be a way to play before you hopped online so you could do somewhat well right? Wrong you have to go online to use it. It is not in the offline multiplayer at all even though it was staed so in many interviews and the Black Ops official strategy guide. That wwas dissapointing because many games like Gear of War 2, Kane and Lynch 2 and Shadowrun all have offline bots to play multipayer with. Splitscreen, a friend comes over and uses a guest profile to play head to head with you right? Wrong you need two Xbox live profiles to play splitscreen. That was another major dissapointment as I do not have access to the internet on my xbox and that requirement completely defeats the purpose of splitscreen. This is my biggest complaint cause how are me and my friend supposed to play then? That being said this games campaign is amazing although I found that the complaints about the Medal Of Honor campaign to be present here and not in MOH.(I have both.) The gunplay works really good and the new weapons are great. Nazi zombies is back on 2 maps but you have to complete the campaign to get the second one. These maps are awesome. One is a battle torn masion and the other is inside the pentagon where you play as JFK, Castro, Nixon and Secretary Mcnammen. If you have internet connection or interest in the campaign buy it. BUT if you had the hopes to play splitscreen and combat training with a friend without internet forget it. Its a huge dissapointment.Read full review
I was a bit disappointed with the single player campaign in this game. As opposed to Modern Warfare, where you have a huge variety of missions (stealth, sniping, strategy) It seemed to me like most of the first-person shooting was just heavy defense with computer AI's that never stop respawning. Black Ops has a few different vehicle missions, where you drive helicopters, boats, tanks etc. and to me, driving was flawed and the controls made it not fun to do. Similar to most COD games, the campaign is short and will only last a couple hours. Multiplayer on the other hand is amazing. I had a hard time putting this game down. Multiplayer is similar to MW2 with a few add ons, such as gun customizing, new perks, new equipment etc. Black ops brings more strategy to multiplayer, and no more noob-tubers :) This game is a definate must-have if you like first person shooters or any COD game.Read full review
A good game, seeing as they got rid of most of the cheap perks. No more one man army, danger close, etc. Most of the gameplay is now straight up, and there does not seem to be too many dominant weapons. Quickscoping is patched, a sigh of relief to some and a frustration to others. Treyarc has done a great job in balancing the gameplay, but many of the maps promote a defensive, camper type of gameplay. Of course, there is nothing wrong with the game itself, but rather the people who play it. There seems to be a lot more camping in this game. They even have a camera as an option to monitor their position. Overall, a well-balanced, good game. Just not as fun as Modern Warfare 2, even though it had tons of problems. I rate it 3 and a half stars.
Call of Duty: Back Ops, is all about the multi-player game. It is just challenging enough, but since playing the other Call of Duty titles in the series, for me this is the best one. I think the map designs are ideal, they seem to have purpose and functionality to online multi-player FPS tactics, where as previous efforts, and MW3 maps seem to be, quite random, not very well structured, and imo create chaos. Maybe some people prefer that, but I prefer the strategic layout of the Black Ops maps. So, multi-player, good weapons with somewhat realistic recoil, YOU CAN DOLPHIN DIVE, imo the hit detection for the most part is pretty good, good perks (except "last stand") and good kill streaks which are not so overpowered like the modern warfare series. It's good, not the greatest experience you will ever have, but I still play it. On to the campaign, sorry but I haven't even finished it. The campaign's of the COD series are just such generic war glorified yawn material just so obvious, boring, dull..I couldn't finish any of the campaign's. So for me, Zombies outshines the multi-player and campaign in this latest of Treyarch's effort, but the zombies maps will get tiresome after playing them hundreds of times, so multi-player is good enough to stretch out the longevity of this game My scoring of this game: Graphics & Sound - 7/10 (frame rate is very smooth, but color is a bit dull. Ambiance is "ok") Gameplay - 8/10 Longevity - 8/10 Story for campaign - 3/10 Story for Zombies - 9/10 Overall - 8/10 (without zombies, would have been a 7).Read full review
Great effects, and weapons. I like that you can pickup clamores and the like after you put them down. The fact that you need to start off at core due to the disabling of hardcore until a higher level is, for me frustrating. Considering you're starting off against veteran players with all there perks. The points you accumulate during boot camp I would like see count for something with at least core. The most frustrating aspect, STILL is the ablity for someone to make what I call a "1000 yard kill shot" across a map with a pistol when in last stand. Don't get me wrong, last stand is a good perk, but totally bogus when you get dropped by a long range sniper shot from a last stander with a pistol. I haven't played zombies yet, we'll see how that goes :). It's still very much a run and gun game. As a whole so far it's ok, let's see how long it takes me to level up compared to the other COD's.Read full review
I gotta say that at first, the day it came out, when I bought it, I hated it. HUGE dissapointment, wasn't good graphics, weird guns, perk changes, I HATED it. I sold it for $20 a week later. One day 2 weeks later my friend brought it over and I started playing it, getting used too it, and MAN WAS I WRONG. This game is really awesome when you get to know it, unlike mw2 you can actually get kills when lagging, there is wager matches, theater, etc... you just have to GET USED TO THE GAME, to like it, i really do like this game, I'd give it a 4.3/5, storyline was epic (even though they copied fight club) and this game is just generally a fair game, lack of epic in multiplayer, but more fair, and definately fun BETTER THEN MW2. + Zombies :D
This is the best CoD game to date. Very well put together. It has great online play and awesome downloadable material. Online play can get a bit ridiculous sometimes but all in all it's a smooth First Person Shooter. The Online Rooms are organized and set up quite well. Easy to get into a room or even set one up for your friends. Does have it's flaws like all First Person Shooters but it's just a game. I have enjoyed Black Ops more so then Modern Warfare 2. But the series in general is above and beyond the best right now. Great Game!
