I bought this model camcorder brand new a couple of years ago at Best Buy for about $300. The features that sold me on this camcorder originally were that it has a microphone input jack for an external mic, and it's entry level price. I use it for nature videography, and you absolutely must have an external mic jack for the better sound quality required for nature videos. When I saw one on Ebay for $50, I bought it immediately. It didn't come with a charger, but so what? I got that on Ebay for $15. So I got a $300 camcorder for $65. This is what makes Ebay so great, if you know what you're looking for, Ebay is where to find it. Back to the camera review, for a low price, entry level HD camcorder, it has a good picture quality, maybe not excellent, like a $1200 camcorder, but for the money, it's a nice little unit. The Menu navigation button is a little small, which makes it a little clumsy to use, but it works, you just have to get used to it. Transferring videos from the camera is easy via USB or Micro-SD Cards (which are getting much more affordable with larger capacities all the time). You can put about one hour of HD video on the onboard hard drive, and more on the SD cards, depending on card capacity. If you need a HD camcorder with an External Mic Input at a low price, this is a nice camera. I have not had any hardware problems with either my old one or the used one I bought on Ebay.Read full review
The on board mic picks up an annoying clicking noise from the camera's auto focus. Very annoying. Luckily, I planned on using this camera with an external mic. If it didn't have an external mic jack this camera would be returned FOR SURE! I use an Audio Technica PRO 24 Stereo Condenser Microphone that I picked up for about $65 on an L mount that I got for $12 bucks at B&H photo. Sounds great. Navigating the lcd screen functions is easy with the little "joystick". Camera is very easy to use overall. I like the ability to use manual focus if needed. One thing to remember before buying a HD camera, make sure your computer is powerful enough to handle editing HD video. My computer is 5 years old and it takes a very long time (hours!) to upload video to sites like youtube. I would recommend this camera for anyone in the $200 to $300 budget range.Read full review
I purchased this Vixia HF R 10 knowing it was an entry level HD Camcorder. The Camera is very easy to use and fits in the hand comfortably. The adjustments function well and it produces good HD video on my HD TV. Settings and Menu are easily accessed and the Lcd is crisp and colorful. The only things I was dissappointed in was the short Battery life, which can be lengthened by purchasing a couple of back-ups, and the Viewfinder which does not exist. Every Camcorder needs a viewfinder. If You are shooting short vids or are cramped for space, I would suggest considering this model. For the money, it performs great!
Well, I bought several digital camcorders starting w/ the Aiptek. They did decent and for its time, did the job. That said.... It was time for a trip this past fall and bought one of those p h l i p video devices. And it also did very well. To be honest, it still has its place in my toolkit. I wanted to start recording our church services but this unit was limited. But I needed better. Pastor told me these Canon Vixia units do a great job so I got one. And now I can video our church services in 1080 and make awesome DVDs for folks. BTW, I am *not* a fan of the bundled software (or any for that matter) and use free open source software to author DVDs. With an upgraded battery and extra memory, it can store almost 2+ hours of HD video. No tapes to change/deal with. No optical media to burn/reuse. Just a quick USB and there you go. In subdued lighting, this still does an excellent job. You will not be disappointed. The optical zoom (never use digital) is enough to bring far away in real close. It does a respectable job taking pictures, but don't expect SLR quality shots. If there was something I would like, that would be a simple video out setting w/ no on screen stuff so I can use as an HD camera. Get this - you will thank yourself.Read full review
I would recommend this Canon camcorder to anyone who is looking to invest in a camcorder to record anything from business meetings, sporting events, to concerts, or weddings, or family memories like birthday parties, and/or Christmas time with the family.

This camera has served me well. In fact, I just bought a second one for my assistant photographer/videographer to use at our photo shoots. We take short clips (8-sec function)and weave them into our photo 'slide-shows' for added effect. It gives a sharp picture when still, yet it may seem slightly choppy when panning at a moderate speed from side to side. The Image Stabilization has it's limits but is still impressive. It may not be suitable for some sports. Hand-held or on a tripod/monopod; I give this an A- overall. I would recommend it to a friend. Overall rating 4.5 out of 5.
this camcorder has several good qualities, it records in hd, it has internal/external memory, it has a MIC input plug. it records great in good lighting, but in low light i can be extremly grainy, not real happy with the low light preformance. for the price, its a pretty good deal tho, i bought it for the MIC input, which is hard to find on newer camcorders. if your price range is $300-$400, this would be a camcorder to consider.
I like this little guy. It's compact, but does the job well. It shoots in full HD 1080p and shoots well in low light. I just leave it on automatic (pre-set) and let it do it's magic. Not happy with battery life (about 30-40 minutes), but it's my first camera so don't have anything to compare it to. Overall I'm very happy with it.
it is very light it can fit in your palms, video quality is o.k.
