    Great and authentic

The Estes model rocket is easy to build and looks like a miniature Redstone on the launch pad. The Civil Air Patrol cadets who have seen it can't wait for me to fly it. Most are too young to know what the Mercury program was. I can use this to teach them of the early years of the space program.

  • Get your Mercury Redstone today!

The Estes Mercury Redstone is a beautiful and fun model to build fly and display. I like the instructions, great quality materials and solid support from Estes has always been their hallmark. I've been building these kits since I was a teenager and it has been a great experience as a hobby and to learn about history of the early years of spaceflight. I highly recommend this kit.

  • Historic model rocket

This kit, I first built it around 1969 from Estes Industries. Being a space freak, I had to have the Saturn 1B, Saturn 5 and as many other rocket kits I could get. This one specially, took many hours of enjoyment and, trying to make it true to its original counterpart, many hours of research too. I enjoyed and flew the kit various times. After that, it became a collectors item in a display at home. Lost in one of my moves, as soon as I saw it. I knew I had to get one. And I did! Just arrived last week and is in line as my next building project. Wish I could get the Orbital Transport, the Mars Lander and other kits long gone. As the first one I built, now that I am retired, I know it will provide me hours of entertainment as well as many good old memories of my youth.

  • Estes Mercury/Redstone rocket

Estes representation of the start of America's Manned Space Program: Mercury. With the first class of Astronauts, the Mercury Seven who were Scott Carpenter, Gordon Cooper, John Glenn, Gus Grissom, Wally Schirra, Alan Shepard, and Deke Slayton. Very nice kit, clear instruction and crisp decals. Fit for flight or as a static model. This model is of Gus Grissoms "Liberty Bell 7." The second to fly, July 21st, 1961.

  • Great finished rocket ---- but a challenge to build!

So far, so good. Looks, that is. This is definitely a challenging rocket to build. The directions are VERY basic and you better plan ahead with trial fitting of the pieces before gluing. Search the internet and learn as much as you can from previous builders for tips before tackling this one on your own. You won't regret spending the extra time to get it to turn out better. I would also recommend buying the plastic fins and the decal "skin". I'm a dentist and great with my hands, but I found building and sanding the fins just too frustrating and not worth the time. The rocket looks great. I can't wait to launch it!!
