    Making an old reliable tool reliable again

    I've had my Makita 9401 belt sander for 30 years or more. I use to use it a lot when I was remodeling houses for my clients as my living. Somewhere along the line the rubber sleeve on the drive roller wore down or broke down and was no longer attached to the aluminum cylinder of the drive roller. This meant the belts would slip and sanding consistently was impossible. A little online research and I found I could replace this part and restore my belt sander to near-new condition. Replacing the roller is not hard and I had it done in about a half-hour. I love Makita tools because they are robust and designed to be repaired. This part fit perfectly and I'm really happy to have this tool back at 100%. I probably saved $200 versus buying a whole new belt sander.
