Synopsis
A gang of thieves stage a daring heist from a secure vault deep below Princeton University's Firestone Library. Their loot is priceless, but Princeton has insured it for twenty-five million dollars. Bruce Cable owns a popular bookstore in the sleepy resort town of Santa Rosa on Camino Island in Florida. He makes his real money, though, as a prominent dealer in rare books. Very few people know that he occasionally dabbles in the black market of stolen books and manuscripts. Mercer Mann is a young novelist with a severe case of writer's block who has recently been laid off from her teaching position. She is approached by an elegant, mysterious woman working for an even more mysterious company. A generous offer of money convinces Mercer to go undercover and infiltrate Bruce Cable's circle of literary friends, ideally getting close enough to him to learn his secrets. But eventually Mercer learns far too much, and there's trouble in paradise as only John Grisham can deliver it., #1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER * Soak up the sun--and the intrigue--with the first novel in John Grisham's beloved Camino series. Camino Island

The book was a good read but not as good as most of Grisham's work. The subject is a little out of character for Grisham but he wrote the Painted House that was also out of character and I really enjoyed. The first part of the book is exciting and gets you pulled into the story right from the start. Then the story begins to drag a bit with a less interesting story. I'm not a person to sit down and read a story as fast as I can. I like to read, think and absorb slowly but also enjoy a book that pulls at me. This was interesting but just not as compelling as I like.

    A Grisham mistake

I am a fan of John Grisham and have read literally everything he has written. I have always enjoyed his novels -- until now. This one is a loser. The beginning is disjointed, and confusing, with a very uneven pace. His character development is awkward and unlikely. I'm looking forward to his next book, hoping he will redeem himself.

  • Different Yet Good

To start, John Grisham is being versatile here. He's writing about something outside the legal thriller genre. Also, it's dealing with book dealing. But the characters are black and grey and things are low beat. Not for every one of his fans but only for the diehard ones.

  • You go Grisham, yet another great book!

Very easy reading, not a convoluted plot with too many characters and subplots; rather entertaining throughout with a charming, pleasant & unexpected ending set right down the street. As always, makes you want another Grisham book - now!

  • A Beautiful Island and Nasty Hurricane.

I am a very avid reader. I like hardcover books and I enjoyed this Camino Island book. However, when asked above if it is content compelling I would have to answer "just sort of". It went along nicely with content and humor, however, I think there were too many individual plots that John Grisham tried to tie together in the end. The sequel is Camino Winds. It does continue to answer some of the readers questions and thoughts. It is a great read for a rainy day.
