If you could test these walkie talkie under optimum conditions, I'm sure they would perform much better than my simple test. I just started driving down the road while talking with my kids still at home. My terrain is fairly flat and wooded. Under these conditions, I was able to go about a half mile before I could no longer understand them. Could be better; but considering the price they definitely also could be worse.
