Director J. Lee Thompson directed this World War II adventure drama from a script by author Bruce Nicolaysen who adapted the screenplay from his novel THE PERILOUS PASSAGE. Anthony Quinn stars as a brave Basque mountaineer who is hired by the American military to guide Professor Bergsson (James Mason) and his family over the dangerous Pyrenees. Together the two men struggle to ensure the group's survival and elude Von Berkow a crazed Nazi played by Malcolm MacDowell.

Fine WW2 movie, the Nazi's get what's coming to them
A very entertaining movie, for me at least. I have been collecting WW2 movies for some time now and just saw most of this on broadcast tv. I'm glad I saw the rest of it and have watched it twice already. Anthony Quinn, James Mason- 2 fine actors, and up and coming star (1979) Kay Lenz. Let's not forget about Patricia Neal (original version The Day the Earth Stood Still ). Intrigue, action, adventure, terrible Nazi torture, and I mean terrible ! You must watch this movie until the final credits are shown.
