    These old Heathkit audio generators are workhorses. Some are built by enthusiasts, which means some are better than others (namely solder joint quality). Also the knobs Heathkit supplied for these eventually crack. I ordered two different IG-72’s, both had cracked knobs and/or previously repaired cracked knobs. Best solution is find a good solid replacement (Davies 1.125” knobs work great, Mouser). Be sure to clean the contacts of all switches in the old units, they will always need it after 50+ years. If you need/want a tube audio generator, these are good with a bit of TLC. Nice compact size too.

    Serviced and now working fine

    After replacing the filter cap, a few resistors (tested out of spec) and cleaning controls, the IG-72 works like new. The tubes testes very good. The IG-72 uses a high precision lab grade circuit design (total distortion at all frequencies < 0.02%) and housed it in an affordable package/case.
