In this WWII action drama, a mission is attempted to knock out a Nazi radio transmitter in the Goa harbor. An allstar cast of characters including Gregory Peck, David Niven, Roger Moore, and Trevor Howard, plus many others round out this cast. Col. Lewis Pugh (Gregory Peck) and Capt. Gavin Stewart (Roger Moore) are working as spies in Genoa. Together they convince their superiors to send W.H. Grice (David Niven) and a group of middle-aged and older veteran fighters from a defunct group, The Calcutta Light Horse, to India to put together a mission. Most of these guys are retired veterans who now spend their days at the Polo Club. This movie is great fun at times watching these old guys show their sills. The Sea Wolves is based on a true WWII story in which a bunch of old soldiers from the British Raj got together and in 1943 blew up several German freighters interned in the Port of Goa, in Western India. Goa was a former Portuguese territory and had declared itself neutral. However, one of the ships interned there had a powerful transmitter and was broadcasting Allied shipping and war information to German submarines and other surface ships who were reeking havoc in the region. Peck and Moore are spying on the transmitter. Moore goes into Goa and has a fling with a beautiful Nazi spy, Mrs. Cromwell (Barbara Kellerman). Peck trains the commando force of retired former members of the Indian army. David Niven, Trevor Howard, Allan Cuthbertson, and Patrick MacNee are members of the force. After a lifetime in the military, these men jump at the opportunity to once again be able to be of service to their country. They were successful in destroying the ships and the transmitter. This is a little known film about an even more obscure mission during WWII. This well done movie was filmed entirely on location in India. You'll like this one!Read full review
This is based on an historically significant event in WWII in India. Being a dramatization, the writers took a few liberties with the details, but the story is generally accurate. Released in 1979, it is most warming to see Gregory Peck and David Niven as senior citizens. While not historically accurate, the writers have a inserted lovely Barbara Kellerman into the plot for diversion. This was made to sell admissions, y'know. A pleasant watch.

Based on a true story. Well acted and well written. Picture this, a group of mostly middle aged out of shape to barely fit British Gentlemen who are all former military. Going up against a German Merchant Marine ship in a neutral harbor. You can google "The Calcutta Light Horse" an dget some interesting history.
