Simple, yet Simply Annoying
I got this game as part of a huge box of old games in a yard sale and boy, the game is certainly nothing as dramatic as the cartridge art suggests... Despite that this game might have a cool-lookin main menu, catchy theme, and an extremely simple 4-digit password system that many NES titles could have benefited from, the gameplay itself is nothing worth remembering. The game essentially offers two hosts for control: the pilot and the "Dino-Mecha." When playing as the "Dino-mecha," the level designs are absolutely drab; too often, patterns of pyramids with triangle-looking lasers and tiny dino fiends that are hard to reach appear. Especially right before the gaps that you have to jump. The Dino-Mecha that you control walks painstakingly-slow - almost slower than every enemy in the entire game. And the "upgradable weapons" are nothing to be excited about: every weapons upgrade is really nothing more than just a slight increase in fire rate or 1 more round of some other random weapon with a single shot. The Bomb is especially a complete joke: a bead that projects in an arc that almost never hits your enemy (not w/o a few or 10 attempts) and just explodes in a blue puff. Surprisingly the best weapons are the punch and rocket fists. There's a lot more than I can complain about but more should be said about the boss stages. The Boss Stages in the Pilot mode are even worse; after you defeat a dino-boss with the mecha you'll enter a gate where you'll disembark from the mecha and enter the side-scrolling boss realm as the Pilot (that looks an awful lot like mega man and master chief combined). Your only weapon is a grey rifle whose upgrades are just fire-rate multipliers and the upgrades themselves very seldom show up and when they do, they can fall through platforms making them near impossible to grab. The jump is similar to the legendary Mario's but more delayed and not as cool. But the level designs for these boss stages are hideously repetitive, from the 1st stage to the very last (seriously, if you took away the stage number, you would not know the difference). After you defeat the killer virus boss, you then have to travel all the way BACK TO YOUR MECHA! And if you die along the way, then you have to start the boss stage all over again (ever heard of an exit route???)! Now, with all the negative things its not to say that this game is completely frustrating and pointless...if you die at any point of the whole stage, it gives you the oh-so-simple password and at the main menu you have a choice to continue from the start of the stage you last played, and not from the very beginning as most NES titles so typically do. So the game is not hard. In fact, you might find relatively easy and even doable to beat in a day or two. However, this game far too often, repeats boring patterns of enemies with frequent situations that might leave you annoyed because you don't have just the right weapon, so you might not even want to finish the game...if you are a die-hard dinosaur or giant robot fan then you'll probably want to play this to the end...just don't expect a grand spectacle of anything... and don't even think about a showy ending like you might expect from sci-fi games because you WILL be disappointed (I'm not exaggerating). I will say that because of its simplicity you might see to beat it. But its one of those games where you beat it once and you don't care to play it again.
My favorite nes game

Whoever named this game should win some type of award. The destruction of Spondylus? Really? Classic. This game is hilarious and should be a part of your collection. Controlling a dinosaur is great fun. I think I shall name my first son Spondylus....What do you think?
Just like I remember!
The game is just like I remembered from when I was a kid. No instructions, confusing controls, bad weapons, I love it!
