    Great zoom at a great price

    This lens gives great overall performance, is built solidly, has a metal mount (very important for the abuse my cameras go through), and focuses fast, even for a non-D model. Images are sharp and contrasty throughout the focal range on my D700, and image acuity does not lag too far behind much more expensive models like the 70-200 f/2.8. It would take a pixel peeper to tell the difference. If you are on a budget and need a great full frame zoom at a fraction of the price of the big boys, give this lens a look.

    Very nice Lens

    Smooth manual focussing ,solid construction and optically excellent at all focal lengths, even wide open. AF is quite good except for near to far as the model i received was the AF rather than AF-D as advertised. I've kept it as the AF has better manual focus. Really good results with my D300.

    Old but Gold

    I think I read all the reviews on the internet before buying this lens. I don't have pro glass to compare it to, but for my semi-pro purposes it works well. Images are sharp through the zoom range under good light. Zoomed out hand-held in dim light or indoors is iffy. Construction seems pretty solid. Very affordable. A cheap lens is no good if it sucks, but the price/performance ratio of this lens is actually pretty sweet.

    Best lens for the price!

    Wanted the f2.8 but did not want to pay $1500 for a lens. This one's a really great alternative to that. After trying it out with my camera, I would buy this lens even double the price!!!!

    As good as AF-s

    As sharp or sharper than current Nikkor consumer zooms, at a fraction of the cost of current comparable new lens. Mechanical build of lens superior to newer lenses, will still be in use when new lens lives out it's life span. Perfect complement to AF-D 28 - 70 - Note: only AF on D7000/D600 & above.
