    Beyond Oasis

This game is a fantastic merging of action, puzzles, and rpg elements. After starting the game, I was under the impression there wasn’t a whole lot to it, but as I got further and further in, the complexity and challenge kept increasing, and for the first time in a long time I was totally enthralled in a game that I’d not ever made a truly earnest attempt in mastering before. The games graphics are a sight to behold, the sheer size and detail of the enemy’s and bosses are impressive on a level that only top tier titles from the time. The controls need a little getting used to, but once you are they feel great! Don’t forget, this is from the same people who brought you Streets Of Rage 2, so expect the combat to feel extremely satisfying! of course that means Yuzo Koshiro did the music, and ...

  • Beyond Oasis for Sega Genesis

You are Ali, the prince of a mysterious island known as Oasis. Upon discovering a magic Gold Armlet, you delve into the world of good versus evil in a quest to stop the nemesis with the Silver Armlet and save Oasis. Battle monsters and vicious bosses with weapons and martial arts as you wield the power of the elements: four Wild Spirits that assist you as you seek to vanquish evil from the realm of Agito. Beyond Oasis is an action/rpg game for the Sega Genesis. This game is Sega's equivalent to "The Legend of Zelda" for the Super Nintendo. The story has a "Final Fantasy" type of feel to it, and the graphics are on-par with other 16-bit games of the era. The gameplay is reminiscent of "Double Dragon" mixed with a little "Prince of Persia" style. As you gain experience, you are able to ...

  • Ali will save the kingdom!

Beyond Oasis is a top-down style action RPG, with emphasis on action. It has all of the experience, HP, SP, etc., you'd expect in an RPG, but the combat is realtime and victory relies on your speed with the controls. Not a whole lot of story here. It has one or two minor "surprises" but overall there isn't much in the way of plot. Don't be expecting a complex tapestry of characters and events. The story is related in short bursts, usually during interaction with one of the few NPCs. Here it is, anyway: A young man named Ali, who enjoys hunting for treasure, stumbles across the magical Gold Armlet on a lonely isle. When he puts it on a spirit tells him he must defend the land of Oasis from the evil Silver Armlet. But first he must find the 4 Spirits of the Gold Armlet. Ali barely escapes ...

  • One of the few action RPGs for the Genesis.

Light RPG elements, multiple weapons and elemental summons to help track down the Silver Gauntlet! Fun game, one of the best on the Sega Genesis/Mega Drive.

  • Good, but not good enough

The Genesis-obsessed know who they are. And if you’ve been on a Mega Drive bender for a couple of months and aren’t really ready to rinse off the Sega shame, this is a perfect cool-down. The dungeons are short, the items are dull, the magic is ancillary and there are not really any narrative elements to speak of. But the simplicity of the hack-and-slash pacing will probably keep you going to see the boss fights, which aren’t half bad. If you're not totally brain dead, you might just want to skip to Landstalker. But if you simply can't stop thinking about that glowing review this game got 15 years ago, the bright side is that it doesn't go for much on eBay.
