The Definitive Version of A Christmas Carol/Scrooge
Growing up many years ago, I got used to seeing the Reginald Owen and Gene Lockhart version of this story, but seeing Alastair Sim's Scrooge made me realize that this was the superior and definitive version of the Dickens story. I watch any and every version of this that I can this time of year, from a cheesy 30 minute version hosted by Vincent Price (IIRC, you can find this on YouTube) to a silent version, to the George C. Scott version, to the Patrick Stewart version. Scott's version is an excellent take on this story, but this Alastair Sim version really brings forth the Victorian atmosphere the best, IMO. I especially think that Sir Michael Hordern is the definitive ghost of Jacob Marley and the scene where he sees the want in the world he could have helped assuage really tugs at the heartstrings. The rest of the cast is wonderful and I especially like Patrick Macnee as the young Marley and the memorable Brit actor Peter Bull, who you may remember did a bang up job as the Soviet ambassador in "Dr. Strangelove," as the deep voiced businessman. It's a wonderful and memorable movie and I recommend this highly.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

This particular rendition of A Christmas Carol was always my favorite movie to watch on TV.. It was a true Christmas Spirits Film.. When I saw it advertised in DVD form and it was a colorized version, I could not resist ordering it and have it for our family to watch at our pleasure.. This was no HUMBUG deal..
