The sequel to the first motorcycle racing game on the PlayStation 2, MotoGP 2 features 20 professional drivers from around the world competing on ten authentic racing tracks in Japan, France, Spain, Great Britain, Italy, Netherlands, and Germany. After selecting one of 12 available bikes, players can fine tune areas in transmission, handling, acceleration, brakes, and tires. New bikes become available as the game progresses.<br><br>A total of five modes are initially selectable from the main menu screen, with a bonus mode becoming unlocked by clearing specific challenges. Arcade mode is a single race against a field of computer opponents, while Vs. offers racing action against a friend. Season mode is the heart of the game, where players will be able to join a racing team and earn points by competing in each of the ten circuits.<br><br>Time Trial has players racing to break course records against an optional ghost image, and Challenge involves clearing specific tasks on the different courses. For example, players might have to overtake a certain number of bikes in the first lap. Other challenges consist of beating a course's qualification time or finishing first in a circuit. Three medals are earned based on time, difficulty, or number of laps.<br><br>The bonus Legends mode is a race against four retired stars of motorcycle racing from a pool of five. Various options in each mode help customize the experience. The game can be played in a 16:9 aspect ratio for widescreen televisions, and players can opt to race on either dry or rainy conditions, with rain increasing the likelihood of crashes and skidding. In addition, multiple camera angles are available to view the action. <br><br>Other settings include manual or automatic transmission, adjustable handicap for two-player contests, three lap types (two, five, or full), and three difficulty levels. Difficulty influences the number of races players will have to enter, with Hard spanning ten races over five years. Replays from the races as well as season progress, lap times, and records can be saved directly to memory card.
