It stars Christina Baldwin as Buttercup, Robert O. Berdahl as Captain Corcoran, Barbara Bryne as Queen Victoria, and Aleks Knezevich as Ralph Rackstraw. G&S Characters Jump Off the Screen
Gilbert and Sullivan remain brilliant for their lyrics, so it is hardly a disappointment that the Guthrie tried to engage the music by making it more Elton-John-esque. Besides, who dislikes Elton? A complaint in many reviews of the production was that the characters were shoved in your face. Without attending theatrical productions in person, however, how are we to experience what the audience experiences? It is a testament to the actors' versatility that they break through to us with their dreadlocks and cockney accents. The question remains, then, who is the target audience?
