Product Information | |
The long-running Need for Speed series races into new territory with this cross-platform, cross-generational release. Most Wanted is built upon many of the fan-favorite features and modes from previous games in the series, including a forgiving yet credible physics engine, vehicles of real-life makes and models, and state-of-the-art graphics. As with the previous Need for Speed: Underground, much of the game is styled around the illicit street racing scene, and as in earlier games such as Need for Speed III and Hot Pursuit 2, many of the Most Wanted's challenges involve not only getting from one place to another in the fastest time, but avoiding ambitious law enforcement officers (in souped-up vehicles of their own) all along the way. | |

Good graphics
Compelling gameplay
Good value
A classic brought back for a good price
I'm happy that this was a painless install and that there weren't any problems with booting it up. scaling the game to my monitors resolution is easy with the extra bit that they pack in with the game, giving you know your monitors resolution. The only real issue is that i noticed the car drifts to the right slightly which throws me off a bit, but its not a game breaking problem so its not that bad. A great price for a game i grew up with and am very happy to see again, wish there was better controller support but the keyboard way is easy to get a hold of for this gem.

Buy it. Play it. Love it.
Overall, NFS Most Wanted is a good game. I'd say it's worth playing. However, there are a few things that I did not like about the game. I am a huge NFSU2 fan, and this game was missing some elements that could have easily been included to make it more like NFSU2. First of all, there are some customization limits that would have been awesome to have: painted calipers, different exhaust tips, and different side mirrors. Those are just a few small details that I think most car enthusiasts would have enjoyed. However, a gamer just buying the game to have fun probably would not care or notice. Also, one can not stop one's car in the street and rev the engine just to hear it -- the game makes your engine slow down too quickly. Also, if you coast at around 20 mph or slower, your car automatically begins to brake! I did not like that. But of course, those are minor details that few would bother to care or notice. Otherwise, this game is a blast. First of all, the graphics are very decent. Set to the fullest graphic specs, everything looks great. Your car, the environment, everything. As for gameplay, it's fun, challenging, and it'll keep you on the edge of your seat -- at least for me, it did. At times, the races will seem unfair because some cars will speed ahead of you very quickly, but you catch up if you're a good driver. The environment provides objects you can "interact" with. By that, I mean you can crash into billboards, water towers, and gas stations, leaving the pursuing police interceptors crushed under your wake of destruction. You can also ram police cars and disable them. You can choose between around 34 cars, but I they are all higher-end cars...also, many of them are not naturally-aspirated. I felt like this game started off too high with that one. I liked NFSU2 where you could start the game with a humble Civic, Miata, Corolla, etc. and tune it to be a monster. NFSMW lets you start out with a Cobalt SS, GTI, and something else... Anyway, like I said before, this game is worth playing. There are a few things that bothered me, but they are probably too minor to make this game NOT worth playing. NFS fans, this one is a must-play.
Great racing game
NFS MW is maybe the last great racing game released for the PC. Apparently there have been some good racing sims that have been released, but I'm not a fan of those. For just a general racing game, this is awesome. The graphics are maybe a 7.5/10 (considering when this game was made). They could be a little bit better. They're still not bad though. The game runs very smooth. There's a pretty big selection of cars (30 I think) and plenty of ways to customize your car. The singleplayer mode takes I'd say about 15 hours to complete. It's pretty fun. Everything is rather repetitive though. It's always daytime out. While there are country roads and there are downtown city roads, they all sort of feel the same. I miss the old racing games that weren't set in a town or city, and you would race in a large variety of different levels. The game can get very challenging near the end. The races aren't as challenging as the police pursuits. They can be extremely frustrating as well because some will take 30 minutes to complete and there have been times where I've been caught in the last minute and I've had to start all over. They emphasized the police pursuits a little bit too much in my opinion. The music is pretty cool. Nothing spectacular, but it's still good. The driving physics are excellent I think. I really like the way the cars handle. There's usually a few people that are on the multiplayer servers that still play this game. There isn't an anti-cheat system however and there are some guys who have hacks that allow them to go literally 1,000 mph. The multiplayer is really fun on LAN though. All in all, NFSMW has its downsides (long police pursuits, lack of variety in tracks), but it's still a great game. It would be the first game I'd recommend to anyone looking for a racing game for PC.
Recommended for modern racing enthusiasts
Need for Speed: Most Wanted is successful as a latest installation of the Need for Speed series. The physics engine, sounds, and driving feel are all remarkable, and a player with a machine capable of handling a higher resolution setting will not be disappointed. The storyline is also enjoyable, as is the freedom to roam the three areas of the map (a new feature to the series). The drawbacks to the game are quite minor. One such drawback is the lack of movement in the driver's seat; no matter what's happening in the outside world, the driver remains motionless and staring straight ahead, and the steering wheel doesn't move with turns either. Another fault might only matter to some players, but the cars in this game are only new models. Some nod to the past would be nice, as there are no classic nor muscle cars available to drive. Overall, the gameplay value is well worth the sticker price, and replayability is high with this game.
