Inspired by actual events, director Ray Bengston's historical drama ALONE YET NOT ALONE tells the tragic story of an 18th Century German family who flees their homeland to escape religious persecution, but finds nothing but misery and suffering after following God's promise to the New World. Denied the freedom to worship in their beloved Germany, the deeply-religious Leininger family ventures to America in search of a better life. Though tensions in the New World run high as French and British forces clash over control of the plentiful resources there, the Leininger's labor hard and long to establish a comfortable homestead in picturesque Penns Creek. Just when this peace-seeking family thinks they have seen the worst, however, Delaware raiders launch a vicious attack on them, abducting the youngest daughters and forcefully integrating them into Native American life. This movie is a blessing. The struggles of the characters is a timeless story shared by many throughout existence. There is good and there is evil. There are temptations of greed, lust, power and pride.A struggle all sides had and we still have today. Do we follow God, facing more challenges, or do we take the east road and live in this world. I'm sure some have said this movie portrays our Native American brothers and sisters in a negative way. I say it portrayed them in an honest manner. Many were and are good honorable people and a few were not, Just like any of us, even Christians. Everyone involved took a huge chance at swimming against the current to tell this story. I HAVE PARTICIPATED IN RE-ENACTMENTS SINCE 1982. BECAUSE MY 8TH GENERATION GRANDMOTHER WAS SARAH CASSANDRA BOONE, I BECAME INVOLVED IN COLONIAL RE-ENACTMENTS. ACQUAINTED WITH "PERIOD CORRECT" ACCOUTREMENTS AND REGALIA, "ALONE BUT NOT ALONE" WAS ABSOLUTELY INTRIGUING AS I PAID ATTENTION TO EVERY SINGLE DETAIL. ONE OF THOSE DETAILS THAT I HAVE SEEN OVERLOOKED IN SUCH MOVIES AS "THE PATRIOT" AND "LAST OF THE MOHICANS" IS THE MANNER IN WHICH ACTORS WOULD CARRY THEIR FLINTLOCKS. THE DIRECTOR OF "ALONE BUT NOT ALONE" PAID ATTENTION TO DETAILS AS FLINTLOCK FIRING MECHANISIMS WERE PROPERLY SET (I.E., FRIZZEN DOWN - HAMMERS AT HALF-COCK). THE EASTERN NATIVES WERE ABSOLUTELY SUPERB IN ALL OF THEIR ATTIRE, WAR PAINT AND WEAPONRY. ABOVE ALL OF THIS, HOWEVER, THE ACTING OF ALL THE ACTORS WAS BRILLIANT AND "SPOT-ON" WITHOUT FAULT.
