Impossible to work with
I won't dispute that this bit can cut a shape. But it's nearly impossible to work with. 1. The bit is vertical. that means you need either a fence or a wide perpendicular face on the workpiece to ride on the table.. But the ultimate shape of the finished piece ends up with only a narrow side down on the table. so you must use a fence. But since the bit cuts the entire face of the workpiece, you must set the fence behind the bit, then push the workpiece backwards (l to r) between the fence and the bit.This is awkward and usual.I found it really difficult. I found that you MUST use featherboards (which work poorly, below). 2. the bit makes a 2" frame, but the bit is exactly 2". There is no extra cutting surface on the flat faces at the top and bottom. You must set it exactly right, and ... I won't dispute that this bit can cut a shape. But it's nearly impossible to work with. 1. There needs to be an extra 1/4" on the flat cutting surfaces at top and bottom to allow for some error and movement. Every piece I cut ended up with an uncut edge on top and/or bottom because the workpiece was not perfectly straight.These were a bear to remove. 3.Because you set up the fence behind, the cut face of the workpeice faces out. This bit requires a deep cut, thus multiple passes. But the curved recessed cut face does not accept a flat featherboard. These rise up into the low spot in the pattern, change tension, or just pull out of the table slot.This while you're doing your utmost to hold the workpiece down and straight against a significant push back from a large cutting face. 4. The top bearing is useless. If you rely on it, your workpeice must be taller than 2", then you end up with an uncut section at the top extending far past the pattern of the frame. Then you would have to rip this or rout it off.this only works if you are able to keep the workpiece perfectly down through the whole cut. It's of no practical use. I have made a couple frames with this. I wasted half of the stock I put on it because it is so difficult to make clean consistent cuts. My bad, but I also bumped the bit and cut myself because of the odd setup. If you can get a good cut, the resulting pieces make a nice frame. But be prepared for frustration, waste, and BE CAREFUL. Honestly, I can't recommend this bit.
