  • Friendships continue to be important in our twilight years.

This book gives the reader a candid view of life in an old folks' home. The author lived among the residents in order to observe their schedules, their personalities, their attitudes, their sense of humor, their physical needs, and the way they spent their days. The reader meets many of the residents brought to life truthfully and respectfully. The reader sees the interaction between these strangers who become friends as they try to live out their lives with dignity and purpose. One of my favorites was a resident who engaged others in theater productions, practices and all. But getting to know the two men who share a room, to relish their banter and support of one another, was a deep pleasure for me. • Helps people understand the feelings of aging people.

This is a non fiction about "old friends" at a nursing home. I highly recommend this for anyone who has a loved one or a friend in "home" away from their home. I have listened to it over the years many, many times. It helped me get through years of visits (my parents have since passed). I have read the book when I wasn't driving after my folks passed. I cannot say enough good things about Tracy Kidder. I would read any book this man writes!. He spends a year with his subject and learns about what he is writing about. Love, Love, Love his writings!!!
