Product Information
As an elite professional sniper, players must rescue the U.S. president as well as his wife and daughter, who have been kidnapped by a radical terrorist group. In exchange for their safe return, the group is demanding the release of their imprisoned leader. Such is the premise of Silent Scope, a port of the arcade title of the same name. Though lacking the gun peripheral found in the arcade version, players are able to manipulate an onscreen targeting cursor using the controller. By holding the L trigger down, players can quickly move the cursor around the screen. Letting go of the button will slow the cursor's movement speed down and provide a zoomed-in view of the area encircled by the reticle, allowing for more precise aiming.<br><br>Players engage the terrorists in several stages, which include a downtown area, a football stadium, a hotel, the highway, and finally, the terrorists' hideout. The stages themselves are timed affairs, adding additional impetus to the onscreen action. Boss fights litter the levels and usually see the player being accosted by manned vehicles, ranging from big rig trucks to harrier jets. While the bosses can survive a handful of hits, headshots will kill them instantly. Running out of time or getting shot will cost the player a life, but by scoping out scantily clad women in the various locales, extra lives can be earned.<br><br>The main Story mode takes the player through a selection of the aforementioned stages, while the Shooting Range and Time Attack modes allow players to practice on both indoor and outdoor ranges and attempt to beat specific stages within a set time limit, respectively. The Training mode provides four different training disciplines -- Time Attack, Perfect Shot, Pop-Up Targets and Quick Shot -- set in either a Farm, River, or Cave training area. The Ranking mode displays the player's ranking in each of the game modes. The Options menu allows players to change various settings, from difficulty to the number of continues, as well as sound, system, and key configurations.
