I was waiting on the right price on this item and finally it happened but planned to buy this along time ago, so I was sold way before I bought it. I was a little shocked how small this is. The picture is really deceiving, I know what your thinking its just a box with the slim sets inserted but that's not the case. Its turns out its much smaller then that. It consists of about 10 cd size albums of each season. So its basically as wide as a cd, and as long as 10 of the mini albums and barely as high as a normal dvd. So its size is really misleading unless you saw it in store already. So its very small, I suggest you look at it in person if your expecting it bigger like I was. Id give it excellent rating for X Files alone, but its main flaw is the cheap, cardboard holders. Each CD had a plastic bag but once you remove it its just 2 flaps of cardboard/paper that holds the DVD in place in the albums. So chances are high it will get scuffed, I only have one other set like this, The Little House On The Prairie Complete set uses cardboard/paper sleeves instead of real plastic holders. So beware of that. This is probably worse since its 2 little flaps about the size of your finger nail that hold the dvd in place. I also couldn't find the poster, cards extras in my set, seems there is 2 versions of this, if you look closely, since I wonder if there isn't 2 ultimate sets, 1 big full size, and 1 smaller mini version. So beware look at the spines of the albums they appear different especially at amazon.com. So check that out if your really picky and wanting that poster and cards. Or could be I can't find it. Also US Mail banged mine, the corners look smashed and dented, so you may want to spend a bit extra in shipping if your picky about the condition of yours, but no dvds are broke that I can see. Ive always been a fan, not hardcore like some, but a fan enough to buy the entire set at the right price, watch those prices, if you spent over 200 you spent too much, you might as well buy the older dvd individual seasons. But I think if you get this under $120 you should be good, paying more for cheap dvd paper/cardboard holders for each dvd seems steep, In my opinion. Great set otherwise, great to have them all, in 1 neat spot, but I do have my doubts about its longevity but I guess I will see, its the sacrifice that is made to make it so compact. Honestly I think they did this on purpose to get you to buy another set down the road, but that's just my opinion.Read full review
The physical presentation is sturdy and provides safe storage for the seasonal collections and the "Fight the Future" two disk movie. The storage box also contains a pull out drawer which is large enough to hold the "I Want to Believe" offering and all the printed material. The storage box is covered with metalized artwork recognized by the x-fan. The lid is of the flip out-up-over and has a magnetic catch. The seasonal collections are contained in individual binders and present a nice look and handy size. All-in-all a good storage solution for the content. The complete episodes and extra features are in logical order and cover almost every question imaginable regarding the series. To complete the X Fies collection, it will need the addition of "The Lone Gunmen" complete series collection. A must have addition to complete back stories and plot development of the parent production. The plot and acting are well presented and character development over the entire series is good to excellent. The overall story revolves around an FBI agent with a past and his thirst to uncover and understand his past problems and at the same time understand the tenuous interconnected reasons for his life. He is assigned an agent to work with him to solve the FBI's most inscrutable and unsolved cases, the X-Files. The cases range from the paranormal to the metaphysical. Cast in to this is the secret government involvement and involvement of a civilian group to protect the human race from the original inhabitants of Earth. The original life form developed into what society refers to as aliens with the associated advanced space vehicles and their friends and enemies. A good story told in a manner which leaves you with answers and questions and a thirst for the next episode.Read full review
This product, according to Fox, gathers together all nine seasons, the film, and the Mythology Threads featurettes off the Mythology collections. The nine seasons are thankfully in the original release format, with all special features included. The feature film appears to have the same contents as the current DVD release as well. As for the featurettes, they appear on a disc of their own. For a box set this big (61 discs), it's priced fairly reasonably as opposed to the 9-season collection that can be found elsewhere on Amazon. However, Fox needs to make sure this is the last time they re-dip the series; maybe they should release it on Blu-Ray to make the HD fanboys happy. Be warned: if you bought the initial season-by-season releases (not the slimpaks) and the movie separately, there's nothing new here. The featurettes on the last disc are also nothing new, as they appeared on the pointless Mythology arc sets that were released on DVD a while back. However, for anyone new to the series or anyone who's been hesitating to buy the series on DVD, this is a great pickup for its price.Read full review
With 9 seasons of X-Files it was hard not to miss a few episodes along the way. It has been long enough since the series ended that even previously viewed episodes will be fun to watch again. The box is sturdier than many reviews say. Perhaps some were not packed well enough during shipping, but the drawer on the bottom works fine and even has enough room for I Want to Believe when it is released on DVD. Be sure to get the collector's edition (61 discs) rather than the slim sets. Perhaps my only complaint is the cases holding the DVDs. Instead of multi-disc jewel cases they are cardboard "booklets" with inserts to hold the discs, including the booklet holding Fight for the Future and the bonus content. If carried individually outside of the box it is possible for the discs to slip out of the top.Read full review
I'm glad to own all 9 seasons of the X Files in one convenient box. The only drawback is the actual box itself that is very susceptible to shelf wear. I really enjoy watching these DVD's with special features such as deleted scenes, list of the cast and commentaries by the directors. Other special features are located on other discs include DVD ROM features, the creation of the season and comments by Chris Carter and other directors. Over all I am very happy with my purchase of this set and was even more excited to find the X Files Fight the Future poster and other fan material inside!
I love the series but even though this set was new and sealed many of the episodes will lock up the players where only a power off/on will get it back working. I tried two different players some will play better on one of the players but not necessarily both.
Verified purchase: Yes | Condition: New
I find it hard to comment on The X- Files because it simply transcends words. It's an intelligent masterpiece, an epos of beautifully complicated scenarios, plots and characters. Eruditely taking on the grayest of areas, confronting those things under your bed and inside your closet thus bringing new meaning to the fears brought on by conventions and the imprudent obstinacy of social norms. The script, the actors and the direction make the most unbelievable seem believable and the unfathomable- unfathomably real. So thought provoking that if you really let yourself dwell in its essence, it can change the way you see the world, if only just by believing in the conviction that The Truth Is Out There. In this collection, you get all the shows, the first movie, the special features and the additions. A good buy for any fan.Read full review
Initially I was very happy with this purchase. This box set from overseas looks almost exactly like the one available here in the U.S. I saved at least $30 over the cheapest one I could find anywhere else. The only difference that I could see was that this one didn't come with the non-DVD extras, which I didn't want anyway. There are dozens of discs in this set, so I didn't check them before leaving positive feedback. After watching many discs I began to encounter ones that didn't play. They weren't scratched or otherwise damaged in any way - they just didn't work. I found two before I stopped watching discs from this set. I checked it against a commercial release and found out that it's a very clever bootleg. When the discs in the set do work, they are indistinguishable with the commercially-available set. So I have learned my lesson about buying bootlegs to save money. It's not worth it.Read full review
The X-files is one of the best television series ever in my opinion. Every episode has a feel and look of a feature film. All the television genres can be found in each x-files episode like drama, comedy, action, horror, etc. The show has imaginative and inventive writers. They create unforgettable characters and thrilling and exciting storylines every week. There are episodes that I watch over and over again because they are just so good. The actors and actresses on the show are exceptional. I would recommend this show to everyone who hasn't seen it. And to those who are already fans of the show, to go out and buy the complete series, season 1-9 and the feature film, so you can enjoy watching the show over and over and over again.
As a massive X-Files junkie in the late 90's and early 00's, I hel out hope that they would finally put the entire series into some sort of collective box set and decided not to buy the individual season's on DVD. I am so glad I waited ! If I had bought all 9 seasons individually it would have cost me (for the cheaper slimlines) somewhere around $ 450.00 retail. Instead I waited and paid an incredibly awesome $ 160.00 for all 9 seasons (with all bonis features!) and the movie in this box set. An incredible deal if you ask me! The box itself is really nice except the poor construction of the drawer which holds the episode guide, collector's cards, movie poster, comic book and other extra's. The DVD's are all housed in nice sturdy hardbound "books" and the episode's (normally 4 per disc) all have easily navigable menu's and are stylishly done. My only major gripe was that they did not remaster the audio and transfer it to 5.1. Otherwise and AWESOME package !Read full review
