Easy to use
Good for GMRS
I bought these radios to use for GMRS. The price is really good for radios that operate with about 1.5W output as compared to the bubble pack FRS/GMRS radios sold for over 4 times the price. However a bit of warning. You need to program the channels, they are not pre-programmed. The best tool for this is Chirp which a free program that can be downloaded. I tried finding the program provided by Bao-Feng online to program the radios and it is hard to find. The version I downloaded was stopped by my computers anti-malware software for being unsafe. Use Chirp, it is safer and easy to use. Important, you need a USB adapter to interface with your computer. This is not included in the package. I also like the fact that it comes with LI Ion batteries instead of NiMH.
These are complete junk, ... but fun.
Yes, these are pieces of junk and can’t be taken too seriously but I still love the BF-888S. Why? 1. They can easily be gutted and the module used for little projects. I.e., you can do all sorts of controller projects with them. I’d love to see a VHF version of the BF-888S that could be used for APRS projects. 2. Keep one around as a backup of a backup HT. Look for the BF-888S battery that has a miniUSB charging port. With this battery, you have a very flexible backup radio that can be charged from a limitless number of sources including solar. I keep one of these BF-888S’s with USB battery in the glove box. Get the cheap vinyl cover too. A few notes: this is an amateur radio. It’s not Type Accepted for Part 95 FRS or GMRS UHF services. It can only, legally, be used on the 70cm amateur band. It requires an amateur license. You must reprogram it. The default freqs it ship with are all over the business and (worse yet) medical bands. Do not use this radio “as is” straight out of the box. It can easily be reprogrammed using CHIRP or Baofeng’s software. The extremely annoying voice feature can be disabled using Baofeng’s software for the BF-444. Yes, that was correct and not a type, BF-444. Voice prompts can’t be disabled with CHIRP or Baofeng’s BF-888S software, but can be with Baofeng’s BF-444 software.

I have owned several sets of Motorola talk about radios over the years. These are some of the best ones that I have owned. I bought a set originally and ended up buying several more I would highly recommend these radios. It's great that they run on a rechargeable battery pack or AA's . They are easy to use and have great clear speakers.

Excellent for GMRS, FRS radio
For what we use these radios for, they are excellent. Voice transmission is very clear, which is what we were after. In my opinion the T400 series radios are a huge step up from the Motorola MR350R radio. We use these radios for security on Sunday morning in a quiet environment, and use the ear buds with the remote mic. The T460 radio has a vibration mode that some of our team uses and likes quite well. The radios are very sturdy, well built and have about a ten hour batter life before needing to be recharged. The T460 also has a weather receiver built in which allows us to monitor the weather when it seems threatening.
