  • Of the two - Earlier version is better

In this pack of two movies, one is good and one isn't. The earlier movie, Make Me a Star is the one that is good. The difference lies not only i characterisation, but also in actor selection. Stuart Erwin has been far superior in this aspect over. It is basically character interpretation. This is a sitcom but not so from the hero's point of view - in fact as far as he is concerned it is a fiasco - and that had been portrayed superbly by Erwin. Another major male lead - the director of the comedy (Baird) - also was better portrayed by Sam hardy (vis a vis Charles Brown). Only place where there is comparable is in the female lead - where ever under-utilised Virginia O'Brien was pitted against legendary Joan Blondel - and she could keep her balance, unlike almost all others in the cast.
